Formative losses strike early: Sahadevan and Roy lose their fathers to thugs, while Jayan's sister dies because there isn't enough money for her operation. These tragedies plant a deep, lasting resolve in each of them and set the stage for their later choices. The film opens by grounding their motivations in shared hardship.

As adults, the three men chart divergent paths. Jayan becomes a somewhat corrupt police sub-inspector, Roy grows into a communist who teaches at a school with his wife Anitha, and Sahadevan rises to a ruthless leadership role in the Communist Party. The contrast between their directions fuels the conflict at the heart of the story.

Roy and two friends expose a corruption case involving Sahadevan. The two friends are mysteriously murdered, while Roy is spared, supposedly out of Sahadevan's respect for Roy's father. This sequence marks a turning point in their power struggle.

Sahadevan explains his painful childhood to Roy, arguing that his violence and tricks are meant to shield his followers—and his own children—from suffering. He presents his approach as a harsh, protective philosophy behind his actions.

Jayan grows close to Jennifer, developing a personal connection amid the rising tensions. This relationship deepens his emotional stake in the unfolding crisis.

When Jennifer's estranged husband assaults her, Jayan intervenes and kills him in self-defense, triggering a police investigation. The incident tests Jayan's loyalties and pushes him deeper into a web of personal and political conflict.

Anitha explains the past friendship between Roy and Sahadevan, and how Roy's idealism clashed with Sahadevan's violence and trickery. The revelation reframes Jayan's understanding of the feud and its human costs.

Roy collapses and is taken to a hospital. A doctor who is distracted by a billiards game claims he is busy, and Roy's condition deteriorates as his friends and wife watch helplessly.

Jayan learns that Sahadevan had once hired goons to attack Roy, maiming him for life and ultimately contributing to his death. The revelation deepens Jayan's anger and clarifies the personal vendetta behind Sahadevan's political violence.

Fueled by the revelation, Jayan confronts Sahadevan and lashes out in a fit of anger. He stabs Sahadevan, killing him and crossing a line that defines the film's moral tension.

Following the murder, Jayan is arrested by the police. The arrest marks a formal end to his personal vigil and underscores the law's reach in a story about power, violence, and ideology.
