In a quiet seaside port at the close of the 19th century, children begin to vanish. A shadowy figure in black roams the streets, suggesting that Death itself may be stalking the town. Nine‑year‑old Laurin is haunted by nightmarish visions of a sack‑bearing man and frightened children crying for help from behind locked windows, deepening the atmosphere of dread.
