Last Cab to Darwin

Rex, a taxi driver in Broken Hill, receives a terminal cancer diagnosis that leaves him with only three months to live. This revelation profoundly shakes his already solitary existence, forcing him to confront his mortality.

In his search for control over his death, Rex learns about an innovative euthanasia device developed by Dr. Nicole Farmer in Darwin. Inspired by the potential to choose the moment of his departure, he decides to volunteer as the first patient.

Before embarking on his long journey, Rex prepares a will that bequeaths his home to his friend Polly, reflecting the bond they share. This act signifies his desire to leave behind something meaningful.

As Rex travels towards Darwin, he encounters Tilly, an Aboriginal drifter. Despite their different backgrounds, they quickly develop a bond and share stories about their past, including Tilly's fears and choices.

During their journey, Rex and Tilly meet Julie, an English backpacker and nurse, who joins them on their expedition. Julie’s presence brings a new dynamic to their journey, enriching their experiences.
