The movie opens with a couple having a romantic moment near Black Lake when they are suddenly attacked by baby crocodiles. Sadie Bickerman's family arrives at her house after gathering her belongings. Nathan, her son, along with his wife Susan and son Connor, are deciding whether to sell the house, setting a domestic backdrop for the unfolding chaos. Connor's fascination with animals begins to connect to the crocodile threat.

Connor secretly follows a loose pet lizard to the lake and, mistaking baby crocodiles for 'pets,' begins feeding them with stolen meat. This act introduces the first indications of the crocodiles' growth and increased aggression, which will escalate throughout the film.

Nathan finds the severed head of a missing elk and consults Sheriff Willinger about the strange incident, wondering if a predator like a cougar could be responsible. This suggests larger unseen threats and hints at the increasing danger in the area.

Reba, a hunter, agrees to help Brett find his missing girlfriend Ellie on the lake. She enlists her two hunting partners, beginning a search that will be threatened by the crocodiles' growing size and savagery.

The baby crocodiles rapidly grow larger and become more aggressive, attacking Reba's boat and her hunting partner, killing them both. The crocodiles' increased intelligence and strength pose a serious threat to everyone in the area.

Multiple attacks occur as crocodiles kill Vica, a babysitter, and Sheriff Willinger, who is dragged into the lake. The threat intensifies, and the remaining characters realize they must take action to survive.

Reba and her hunting partner Jonas manage to shoot and kill one crocodile, but Jonas is killed when another crocodile attacks him. Reba is severely injured, highlighting the increasing brutality of the crocodiles.

Brett finds Ellie and a crocodile attacks him, killing him. Ellie ends up stranded alone in the woods. The characters' attempts to rescue her are thwarted by the crocodile threat.

The crocodile breaches the supermarket where the survivors seek refuge. Reba fights off a crocodile with her knife before being killed, and others try to defend themselves as chaos ensues.

Nathan crashes Dimitri's truck at a gas station, ignites the remaining crocodile with gasoline and a lighter, causing an explosion that destroys it. This marks the climax and attempt to eliminate the remaining threat.
