Kumari

The goddess visits earth and is captivated by humanity. She marries a mortal and bears two children, Chathan and Gari Devan, who neither look divine nor human but wield enormous powers. To prevent a catastrophe, the goddess restrains Chathan to the mountains and Gari Devan under the land before returning to her realm, and humans begin to worship them.

In a village, cruel landlord Thuppan mistreats low-caste people. Chokkan, an orphan, secretly feeds Chathan in exchange for gems and earns Nangakutty's affection. One day, a mango incident reveals Nangakutty ate forest mangoes; Thuppan kills Chokkan at the village pond, and Chathan curses the village with a rain of rocks and deadly disease, forcing Thuppan to seek protection from Gari Devan.

Twelve generations pass before Kumari, an orphan raised by her uncles, marries Dhruvan, Thuppan’s descendant, despite opposition from Jayan. Dhruvan is described as mentally ill and hungry for power, foreshadowing storms to come for the family and the village. The marriage ties Kumari to the enduring legacy of Chathan and Gari Devan.

Kumari’s pregnancy follows her attraction to Chokkan, deepening tensions within the family. Dhruvan reveals his ambition to lord over the village and begins shaping himself to resemble Gari Devan by cutting his fingers. Achyuthan's wife Lakshmi warns that their family is forbidden to enter the forest, lest Chathan's wrath be provoked.

Lakshmi explains the forest taboo and the enduring debt to Gari Devan, revealing that Thuppan has survived for twelve generations in the attic, bearing guilt for past sacrifices. Kumari processes these revelations, understanding the danger looming over her unborn child. The family’s history reconnects with the divine struggle between Chathan and Gari Devan.

The revelation links the present crisis to the family's cruel traditions and Dhruvan's mounting power hunger. Velyachan trains Dhruvan for the next sacrifice, while Parijatham spurs Achyuthan to seek Chathan's favor; however, Achyuthan is killed by Chathan in a confrontation. Kumari watches the dangerous power struggle unfold as her due date approaches.

Lakshmi's revelations connect that debt to the present danger, foreshadowing Kumari’s child as the potential sacrifice. Dhruvan becomes the next lord after a sequence of deaths and intrigue, while Parijatham once again pushes Achyuthan toward power. Chathan’s intervention kills Achyuthan and the path to rulership is opened; Velyachan dies from a snake bite, clearing the path for Dhruvan’s rule. Kumari watches with fear as the rival powers close in.

Dhruvan confines Kumari to a room to prevent the birth from interfering with the ritual. Jayan comes to take her away, but Dhruvan murders him in the fields, leaving Kumari devastated. The family’s grip tightens and the village grows uneasy about the looming sacrifice.

Gripped by fear, Kumari seeks aid from Thuppan, who, repentant for his past, prays to the goddess and discovers her idol and a dagger that Kumari had seen in nightmares. Thuppan’s act rekindles the ancient pact and arms Kumari with a plan to protect her child. The discovery bridges the old myth with the present danger.

Kumari gives birth to a healthy boy, and Dhruvan tries to seize the child for sacrifice, summoning Gari Devan. Muthamma’s community arrives and prays to Chathan, guiding Kumari toward safety as divine forces respond to her plea. The child’s life is saved as the cosmic struggle intensifies.

Chathan arrives and fights Gari Devan to uphold his promise to Kumari, cutting off Gari Devan’s tongue in the duel. Kumari then confronts Dhruvan and kills him to save her baby. Gari Devan’s fate remains ambiguous, leaving a trace of the demi-god’s survival in the legend.

A few years later, Kumari rules the village with compassion, moving beyond patriarchy toward humane leadership. Her son finds Chokkan in the forest, hinting that Chathan’s influence may endure through future alliances. The story ends on a hopeful note that divine power can be guided by human mercy.
