The film centers on a middle‑class family led by Sankaran Nair and his wife Ammini, whose life quietly hums along with their children Krishnanunni, Preman, Rema, and Gopu. [Krishnanunni] is a bank employee and is married to Geetha; [Preman] is a dedicated drama artist, while Rema and Gopu are still pursuing their studies. A close family friend hopes to link his son, Murali, with Rema, and the idea of the wedding sets a new course for everyone.

When the elders propose the match, Rema resists and reveals that her Malayalam lecturer, Sivan, is the man she loves. The initial opposition from her family gradually softens once they see that Sivan is financially stable, and the plan to marry Murali to Rema moves forward. Yet Murali, though heartbroken by the turn of events, proposes a different arrangement: he suggests that his friend Preman marry his sister [Indu], hoping to fulfill the unspoken wishes that bind the two families. The marriages are arranged with the financial help of Krishnanunni, and soon Geetha discovers she is pregnant, bringing a wave of happiness to the household. The news of impending grandparenthood fills Sankaran Nair and Ammini with joy.

As customs require, Geetha moves back to her parents’ home during the seventh month of pregnancy, and the household buzzes with preparations and prayers for the baby. Soon, however, tensions flare anew. There are uneasy sparks in the marriages between Sivan and Rema, and between Preman and Indu. Indu leaves Preman after a fight, and around the same time, Rema returns to her parental home following a dispute with her mother‑in‑law, Bhageerathiyamma, and a clash with Sivan. Murali stays supportive but urges Indu to reconcile with Preman, while Rema remains stubborn about returning to Sivan’s house. Krishnanunni, watching these frictions, grows uneasy and questions the widening rift within his family.

A day of shifting loyalties follows. Krishnanunni gives money to his mother, though it’s less than usual, explaining that with his wife away, expenses naturally fall. He voices his disappointment that Preman, despite being a drama artist, contributes less financially than Krishnanunni, which Ignacio—sorry, Sankaran Nair—takes as a sign that Preman’s priorities lie with the family, even if his earnings aren’t steady. The argument deepens the rift between Sankaran Nair and Krishnanunni, and Krishnanunni finds himself asked to leave the family home. He moves into a nearby house, while Preman makes efforts to mediate, yet the barrier remains.

Sankaran Nair then takes up work as a lorry driver, driven by a stubborn resolve to support the family despite his frail health. The news comes that Geetha has delivered a baby boy, a moment that brings happiness to the elders even as they worry about Krishnanunni’s absence and the family’s finances. Krishnanunni, Geetha, and their newborn son eventually join a new household arrangement, and Kunjamma enters as caretaker to help manage the growing responsibilities. Geetha’s sternness about money and spending becomes a point of friction, but it also fuels discussions about responsibility and care.

The narrative threads converge when Geetha learns that Sivan’s mother has been hospitalized after a leg injury. This development softens tensions and prompts Geetha to urge Rema to mend ties with Sivan, leading to a hopeful reunion between Rema and Sivan. As Krishnanunni confronts his missteps and acknowledges that his actions were meant to protect the family, Sankaran Nair’s heart softens too. He earns enough to consider a reconciliation, and the elder parents forgive Krishnanunni, opting to keep the family united rather than split. In the end, Geetha suggests that a careful shift to a new arrangement might help preserve the family’s closeness and privacy, signaling a calm, hopeful closure to the trials the household faced.
