Disheartened by losing his girlfriend and frustrated with how women see him, Johnny resolves to adopt a tougher gangster persona. He studies bravado and public image, hoping the tougher aura will improve his appeal. This decision marks the risky start of his descent into crime-inspired bravado.

Johnny drops into a bar and performs his new act, mimicking a fearless gangster. His exaggerated bravado provokes Big Nick Moronie, the infamous public enemy, who takes offense at the display. The confrontation signals the trouble looming over Johnny's newly adopted persona.

Big Nick's feud with Maboose leads him to send Little Joe to deal with the problem. Little Joe shoots and kills Nick in his own apartment, which sits just across the hall from Johnny. The murder drags Johnny into a deadly spiral he did not foresee.

Little Joe, unsure how to dispose of the body, hides Nick's body in one of Johnny's lingerie trunks in Johnny's apartment. Johnny remains unaware of the concealment as events spiral out of control. This macabre hiding places Johnny directly in the crime scene's proximity.
