Kiki’s Delivery Service

On her 13th birthday, Kiki leaves her home with Jiji and her mother's broom to seek a new town. She flies off into a cloudless night under a full moon, eager to start her Witch Delivery Service. She wonders what her unique skill will be as she embarks on this rite of passage.

During her flight over Koriko, Kiki encounters another witch and her cat, who she finds pretentious. This meeting sparks her curiosity about what truly makes her own magic special. The moment foreshadows a quest to discover her purpose.

Kiki discovers Koriko and accidentally flies through traffic, causing a scene. A policeman approaches, but Tombo, a boy obsessed with flight, helps her escape and regain composure. This encounter plants the seed for a complicated friendship.

Seeking a place to live and work, Kiki discovers the Gutiokipanja bakery and is invited to stay in a room above the shop. Osono and Fukuo welcome the edgy newcomer and see potential in her delivery idea. The arrangement gives Kiki an anchor in the new town.

Kiki officially starts delivering goods by broomstick, calling herself the Witch Delivery Service. Her first order is a small stuffed black cat meant for Ket, the neighbor's nephew. The job tests her skills and confidence as a new entrepreneur.

On her way to Ket's, a strong wind sweeps Kiki into a forest full of attacking crows, and she loses the real toy. Jiji pretends to be the toy so Ket won't be disappointed while Kiki plans to retrieve the real one.

Kiki tracks down the real Jiji at the home of a young painter named Ursula, who fixes and returns the cat. With Ket’s dog Jeff aiding, Kiki recovers Jiji and swaps him back for the toy.

Tombo invites Kiki to visit his aviation club, but she becomes overwhelmed with deliveries and is caught in a thunderstorm while returning. She ends up drenched and ill, with Osono caring for her recovery.

Osono secretly arranges a delivery addressed to Tombo to bring them together. Tombo gives Kiki a ride on his bicycle-powered flying machine, sparking warmth between them, though she remains wary of his friends.

Kiki descends into depression, losing the ability to understand Jiji and her own flying powers, forcing her to suspend deliveries. Ursula visits and identifies this as an artist's block, urging Kiki to find a new purpose to regain her magic.

Ursula spends time with Kiki at Ursula's home and confirms that her block can be overcome by reorienting her art toward a new purpose. The conversation gives Kiki renewed hope and direction.

While visiting a former customer's house, Kiki watches an airship accident on television. Tombo struggles to tie the dirigible down, and a gust carries it away with him clinging to a rope. Kiki borrows a broom, regains her powers, and rescues Tombo.

With her confidence restored, Kiki restarts her Witch Delivery Service and writes home that she and Jiji are happy. She embraces her renewed sense of purpose and continues delivering for the town.
