Lakshmi, who dominates her husband Sivaswamy's money, refuses to lend ₹3,000 for his sister's husband. Her contempt is evident in the control she wields over the household finances. This sets the baseline for the tension that drives the plot.

Ramu and his cousin Mali hatch a plan with Appaswamy, who disguises himself as the godman Badrinath Swamy Sukranada. They intend to access Lakshmi's locker and steal ₹50,000. The plan unfolds at the tea shop and then near Lakshmi's residence as the disguise is prepared.

Rama, an orphan, asks Iruthayam for a conduct certificate to apply as Lakshmi's secretary. Iruthayam, a doctor at a mental hospital, blunders and issues the certificate for another girl named Rama, who is mentally unstable. The mistake seeds mistaken identities that propel the ensuing misadventures.

DSP Paramantham, who had previously arrested Appaswamy, comes to meet the supposed godman. Appaswamy manages to persuade him not to take on any cases for the time being. The ruse buys the conspirators crucial time to carry out their plans.

A telegram arrives announcing that the real Badrinath Swamy Sukranada will arrive in two days. This creates intense pressure on Appaswamy to complete the theft before the impostor is exposed. The sense of urgency tightens the plot.

Mani, Lakshmi's brother, steals ₹5,001 that Lakshmi had donated to Appaswamy to secure the deal. Rama catches him red-handed, foiling another minor theft. The incident further complicates the household dynamics.

Soon the sane Rama joins Lakshmi's household as a secretary. Rama and Ramu begin to fall in love, creating a bond that ties the two families together. The domestic situation becomes more delicate with this romance.

The mentally unstable Rama and her father arrive at the same house, bringing heightened tension. The father overhears the planned robbery, threatening to expose them. Confusion deepens as multiple Ramases intersect with Lakshmi's world.

A secret understanding is struck: Ramu and Appaswamy will not reveal that the sane Rama is actually insane, and Rama's father will not expose the robbery plan. The fragile pact allows the relationship to proceed while keeping the lie intact. The household moves forward under this delicate truce.

That night, Appaswamy and Ramu carry out the theft and steal ₹50,000. They hide the loot in a flower pot to mislead investigators. The operation seems successful, but appearances are about to unravel.

The insane Rama's father, the sane Rama, and Mani stumble upon the stash, triggering a chaotic scramble. Mani throws cash to Latha's brother, but Rama catches him red-handed, and the money ends up inside the brother's coat. The misdirection spirals as everyone tries to salvage the plan without revealing the truth.

To prove the other Rama is insane, the sane Rama tells her the coat would look nice on her. When the unstable Rama creates a scene, the ruse collapses and her condition is revealed. With the confusion cleared, Lakshmi relaxes and consents to Ramu and the sane Rama's marriage.
