Joséphine is a 30-year-old single woman who shares her life with a cat named Brad Pitt and spends her days chasing the man of her dreams. During a family meal, her younger sister, Diane, who seems to have it all, drops the news that she is about to marry Marcelo, a Brazilian surgeon. This revelation becomes the spark that makes Joséphine invent a tale about her own engagement to Marcelo and a plan to move to Brazil, and her carefully built lie begins to spiral out of control, setting off life-changing consequences for everyone around her.
At work, Alexandra, the head of human resources, overhears a conversation between Joséphine and her friend Chloé. With layoffs looming in the company, Alexandra seizes the chance to fire Joséphine, widening the reach of Joséphine’s deception and pulling more people into the fallout.
To make her deception ring true, Joséphine’s friends buy her a plane ticket to Brazil. Just before the departure, she suffers a panic attack and is taken to the hospital, while her luggage disappears, leaving her momentarily stranded and alone with the lie she has told.
Determined to keep up appearances, she hides in her own apartment, temporarily lent by Chloé to a colleague, Gilles. Although she found him tedious at first, she gradually finds herself drawn to him, and a spark begins to grow between them, complicating her original plan to disappear.
The truth begins to surface when Joséphine’s bag is brought back to her apartment. Gilles confronts her and calls her friends; in response, Joséphine fabricates a version about Marcelo’s death. Her friends and Gilles do not believe the story and leave in anger, leaving Joséphine to face the consequences of her deception.
Joséphine finally confesses her love to Gilles, but he is not ready to forgive the deceit. In a dramatic twist, she decides to interrupt her sister’s wedding after discovering that Diane’s fiancé, Aymeric, has cheated. Diane chooses to believe her sister’s account, and the two flee the church together.
Later, Gilles, moved toward reconciliation, goes to Joséphine’s apartment, only to find it empty and to be met by Julien, Joséphine’s ex-boyfriend who is staying there after a fallout with his wife. Gilles, mistaking the situation as a sign of a hidden relationship, leaves disappointed. When Joséphine learns from Julien about Gilles’ visit, she runs after him to prove her love.
By the end of the credits, Joséphine’s friends have forgiven her for the lies, and she and Gilles have decided to start a life together.
