Jagan R. Madhavan is a carefree youth who shares a room with his friends, plays the violin well, and *always tries to help others while looking out for himself*. His father Delhi Ganesh works as an assistant to an unsuccessful politician who is tied to two political brothers. Their sister, Seema [Pooja Umashankar], grows fond of Jagan after he saves her from a group of goons, adding a subtle layer of romantic tension to his daily life.
Jamuna [Priyanka Kothari] is a strikingly beautiful young woman from Kolkata whose protective father keeps a tight rein on her. Jagan spots her in a bookstore and falls for her instantly, but is beaten by her father before he can even get to introduce himself. Jamuna apologizes, and Jagan cannot forget her. He returns to the bookstore, hoping for another glimpse, while Jamuna buys a book, kisses it, and begins writing her name, only to be interrupted by Jagan. They share a cup of coffee, and Jagan confesses his wish to marry her. Jamuna, who believes in destiny, writes her name and address on a 100-rupee bill and tells Jagan that if either of them finds the bill within a year, they will wed. She pays the waiter, and when Jagan goes to retrieve the bill, it’s already handed off. Jamuna heads back to Kolkata, and Jagan is left longing.
Jagan, determined, starts a search for the bill with help from his friends. Jamuna, meanwhile, travels to Kolkata, where she receives a proposal from her family friend Guna [Sashi Kumar], yet she remembers Jagan’s declaration and realizes she may have fallen for him. She also seeks the bill with the help of her cousin Meera [Malavika Avinash], who lends a steady hand in the quest.
Under evolving circumstances, Jagan becomes engaged to Seema, who gradually discovers the truth about Jagan’s true feelings for Jamuna. Jamuna manages to obtain the bill while enjoying pani puri, but a petty thief snatches the money away. She breaks down, and Meera admonishes her for abandoning Jagan in Chennai.
Seema eventually finds Jamuna’s book left at the cafe where they first met, hoping it might reach Jagan. Jagan reads Bengali words in the book and learns that Jamuna is from Bengal, prompting a journey to Kolkata; Jamuna heads to Chennai with Meera to confess. Their trains cross at Vizag, but they fail to meet. In Kolkata, Jagan cannot locate Jamuna, and in Chennai, Jamuna finds Jagan’s house. It becomes clear that Meera is connected to Jagan through friendship, and Meera shares a hostel with him. When Jamuna is left alone in Jagan’s home, his father introduces another boy as Jagan, causing Jamuna to leave for Kolkata in disappointment. After she departs, the boy reveals the truth to Meera, who promptly informs Jamuna.
Meera travels to Kolkata to inform Jamuna, while in Chennai, Jagan discovers the note and shares the happy news with Seema, who faces opposition from her brothers (though the second elder brother supports him). Meera and Jamuna eventually make their way to Chennai, where Guna sacrifices his own romantic hopes. Jagan learns that Jamuna plans to come to Chennai, and Seema’s family confronts him, but the elder brother ultimately offers his blessing. The story culminates with Jamuna and Jagan meeting again in a coffee shop and choosing to unite.
