Rambabu challenges his father because he refuses to accept an arranged marriage that was fixed without his consent. His father Ranganatham had already arranged his alliance with Jaganatham's daughter, but Rambabu wanted to win Shanti's love on his own terms. The six-month deadline creates urgency and stakes, making it the central constraint that drives his subsequent schemes and efforts to prove his sincerity.

Shanti rejects Rambabu despite knowing him because she strongly believes in the tradition of arranged marriage.
