Zaya disappears because she is genuinely attracted to Appu but is trapped by her vows as a nun and her traumatic past. Zaya became a nun because she was sexually exploited by her uncle, a police officer, when she was a young girl. She kept this trauma hidden from her family due to fear of repercussions and judgment. Choosing a religious life was her way of seeking protection, healing, and a safe environment away from her abuser.

Zaya's uncle is the man who sexually exploited her during her childhood. He worked for the police and used his position to silence and control her. When Zaya leaves the convent to be with Appu, her uncle sees this as a threat to his secrets and tries to violently stop their relationship, attacking Appu at the pre-wedding function.
