In a world ravaged by crop blight, humanity has devolved into a struggling agrarian society. Former NASA pilot Cooper fights to sustain his family amidst growing misinformation regarding the past, particularly about NASA's Apollo missions.

Cooper's ten-year-old daughter, Murphy, believes their home is haunted by a ghost trying to communicate with her. After investigating, they discover that this so-called ghost is an unknown intelligence sending coded messages through gravitational waves.

Following the mysterious coordinates, Cooper and Murphy find themselves at a secret NASA base. Here, Professor Brand reveals that humanity is facing extinction due to worsening climate conditions and failing crops annually.

Professor Brand explains the existence of a wormhole, created by alien intelligence 48 years prior, that offers a route to potentially habitable worlds. NASA's Lazarus missions have found three candidates—Miller, Edmunds, and Mann—around the black hole Gargantua.

Brand recruits Cooper to pilot the spacecraft Endurance. The mission aims to gather data on the three planets to determine if they could support human life while preparing a backup plan involving 5000 human embryos sent to one of the new worlds.

Cooper shares a heart-wrenching goodbye with Murphy as he embarks on this critical mission. It is a farewell filled with uncertainty about whether he will return, as the fate of humanity seems to depend on this journey.

The crew arrives at planet Miller, only to be confronted with a brutal reality. The planet's proximity to Gargantua causes severe time dilation, where one hour there equals seven years on Earth, leading to a life-altering experience.

A treacherous tidal wave strikes while the crew is on Miller, resulting in catastrophic losses. The harsh conditions demonstrate the peril of their mission, amplifying tensions and fears among the remaining crew members.

As Cooper travels through space, Murphy grows older on Earth, working with the aged Professor Brand. She carries the heavy burden of her father's departure while striving to solve a crucial gravity equation that could save humanity.

Despite warnings about the inhospitable environment of Mann's planet, the crew decides to explore it after exhausting options on Miller. Upon arrival, they discover that Mann has manipulated data, revealing a shocking betrayal.

With their ship severely damaged, Cooper and Amelia decide to execute a daring slingshot maneuver around Gargantua. This risky move aims to collect invaluable data from the black hole, sacrificing their safety for a chance at success.

Cooper finds himself in a surreal extra-dimensional space known as a 'tesseract' where he can interact with memories of Murphy's childhood. This experience reveals that advanced forms of human descendants are the ones guiding him.

Realizing the alien intelligence is aiding him, Cooper uses gravitational wave signals to send crucial data to Murphy through her watch. This pivotal moment empowers her to complete the gravity equation necessary for humanity's survival.

Cooper awakens in a NASA station near Saturn, where he is joyfully reunited with an elderly Murphy. She shares the success of her efforts in ensuring humanity's survival, encouraging Cooper to seek out Amelia and CASE in their new world.
