Riley is on the brink of her teenage years, facing the challenges that come with adolescence as she prepares to enter high school. Inside her mind, her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust—are adjusting to this new phase by creating a space called the 'Sense of Self.'

The coach, played by Yvette Nicole Brown, recognizes Riley's potential and invites her to try out for the Fire Hawks, a sports team at her new school. Excited about this opportunity, Riley and her friends decide to participate, but Joy plots to erase Riley's negative memories to ensure she shines during the tryouts.

As Riley prepares for her new camp journey, an internal alarm sounds signaling the beginning of puberty. Although the emotions initially manage to silence the signal, a group of mind workers rushes in for renovations, creating chaos in Riley's mind.

Upon arriving at Hockey Camp, Riley is heartbroken to learn that her friends, Grace and Bree, will be attending different schools. Despite this setback, she resolves to make the most of her camp experience, focusing on meeting her idol, Valentina Ortiz.

Riley's emotional world shifts drastically when five new emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Nostalgia—storm into her mind. Led by Anxiety, the new emotions challenge the established order, creating tension as the old emotions fear losing control.

A clash ensues between Joy and Anxiety as they debate how Riley should behave during camp. Riley feels torn between her new teammates and her longtime friends, which adds to the internal discord within her emotional landscape.

After overhearing unkind comments about herself from her new teammates, Riley seeks validation from Valentina Ortiz. Valentina encourages Riley, urging her to embrace her own identity and to focus on her performance at camp.

During team selections, Riley makes the difficult decision to prioritize her relationship with Valentina over her old friends, sparking further emotional discord. This decision leads Anxiety to take drastic steps, jettisoning the 'Sense of Self' deep into Riley's unconscious.

To regain control, Anxiety enlists Embarrassment to confine the original emotions into a jar, which ends up in a vault filled with Riley's imaginary friends. This leads to a chaotic struggle within her mind as Anxiety distorts Riley's identity with negative memories.

Despite the internal turmoil, Riley impresses Valentina during practice, earning a personal invitation to spend time with her. Meanwhile, the old emotions persistently try to retrieve the 'Sense of Self' in hopes of restoring positivity to Riley's experience.

Joy takes the lead in rallying the other emotions to counteract Anxiety's influence. Together, they embark on a wildly imaginative journey across Riley's mind, all while battling to regain control of the narrative and reinforce Riley's self-identity.

In a determined effort to protect Riley, Sadness sneaks back to headquarters, seizing a phone from Ennui in an impulsive moment. This action is pivotal, as it signifies Sadness's resolve to help Riley navigate her overwhelming emotions.

As the important hockey game approaches, Riley learns that her coach doubts her readiness to play. Sensing Riley's vulnerability, Anxiety escalates her negative thoughts, resulting in a state of panic that threatens to unravel Riley's confidence right before the game.

In a climactic moment, Joy convinces Anxiety to ease her grip, allowing Riley to relax and reconnect with her friends. This newfound camaraderie among Riley's emotions empowers her to apologize for any misunderstandings, fostering unity as they work together.

With her emotions now aligned, Joy hands control back to Riley, enabling her to play a remarkable game that secures her spot on the Fire Hawks team. As the credits roll, Riley's parents ask about her camping experience, and she simply replies, 'It was good,' reflecting her growth.
