In the Shadow of the Moon

In 1988, Philadelphia is struck by a series of unexplained deaths as multiple individuals suffer from massive hemorrhages. The police are baffled, struggling to find a connection between the victims.

Police officer Thomas Lockhart, alongside his partner Maddox and his brother-in-law Detective Holt, begins to investigate the mysterious cases. Lockhart observes that the victims bear strikingly similar puncture wounds, hinting at a deeper connection.

The investigation leads Lockhart and Maddox to an assault victim who has identical injuries to the murder victims. Before she dies, she reveals chilling details about her attacker, describing a black woman with an injured hand.

As Lockhart and Maddox track the suspect into a subway, chaos erupts. During a tense confrontation, the suspect reveals intimate details about Lockhart's life, including the impending birth of his child that day.

In a shocking turn of events, a train collides with the suspect, resulting in her immediate death. However, amidst this chaos, Lockhart faces further tragedy as his wife goes into labor and ultimately dies during childbirth.

Fast forward to 1997, Lockhart is battling the emotional aftermath of his wife’s death as a new wave of killings begins. A copycat killer strikes, reigniting fears and shattering the normalcy he attempted to build with his daughter, Amy.

Lockhart uncovers evidence leading back to the original case, including keys discovered from 1988. He encounters physicist Naveen Rao, who suggests that the clues indicate a phenomenon of time travel, leaving Lockhart and Maddox skeptical.

Amid the investigation, Lockhart unexpectedly reunites with the original suspect from 1988. The encounter leads to another chaotic altercation resulting in Maddox's accidental death, deepening Lockhart's trauma.

By 2006, Lockhart has become a private investigator, consumed by the obsession to solve the case. His relationship with teenage Amy is strained as he digs deeper into the 1988 murders, connecting them to new victims.

Lockhart discovers a previously unlisted victim connected to the original murders. This leads him to a chilling revelation that links the case to a white nationalist militia, but his radical theory of time travel is met with skepticism.

Desperate for answers, Lockhart borrows Holt's badge to investigate further, leading to the murder of the militia leader's ex-girlfriend. A dramatic chase ensues, ending with Lockhart wounding the suspect before she escapes through a time machine.

In 2015, while waiting on a beach, Lockhart is approached by Rao, who reveals his involvement with the technology used by the woman committing the murders. Rao believes she is executing justice against those responsible for past tragedies.

After a harrowing encounter with the woman, Lockhart discovers she is Rya, his granddaughter. This revelation forces him to confront the impact of past events and the cycle of violence inherited by the next generation.

Years later, Rya is compelled to carry out her mission against the militia responsible for past atrocities. Lockhart struggles with the sense of guilt as he reveals his role in her death in 1988, ultimately supporting her quest for justice.

In a poignant closure, after Rya leaves to fulfill her mission, Lockhart reunites with his family in 2015. A glimmer of hope emerges as he embraces a chance for a future alongside his granddaughter, free from the shadows of the past.
