Ruth leaves Michel for Paul, and the two head to her sunny seaside villa for a carefree summer. Their idyll turns ominous when the car’s brakes fail and Ruth narrowly avoids a fatal crash, then a diving accident puts her at risk of drowning. Michel unexpectedly shows up, and Paul invites him in. Ruth becomes convinced the sabotage—faulty brakes and diving gear—is Michel’s doing, though Paul dismisses the idea, heightening tension as the heat rises.
