Aimie is a teenage Korean immigrant who has just moved to the snowy landscapes of Toronto along with her divorced mother. Struggling to acclimate to her dim new surroundings, she deeply misses her father, who remains in Korea. One of the few bright spots in her life is her best friend, Tran, also a Korean immigrant but one who has managed to blend in more seamlessly with the culture around them. As Aimie navigates her complex feelings, she finds herself developing a crush on Tran, yet feels uncertain about the idea of becoming his girlfriend.

Their relationship becomes a tangled web of emotions, often characterized by miscommunication. Each teen mistakenly assumes that the other can instinctively grasp their thoughts, leading to frustrating encounters filled with passive-aggressive interactions when their expectations fall short. Tensions rise when Tran begins to show interest in more outgoing and “Americanized” Korean girls, exacerbating Aimie’s feelings of jealousy and insecurity.

In addition to this, the film delves into Aimie’s strained relationship with her mother, reflecting on the challenges of their shared circumstances. The absence of her father weighs heavily on her heart, amplifying her sense of loneliness and isolation as she gradually finds herself distanced from Tran. As the story unfolds, Aimie’s challenges paint a moving portrait of the struggles faced by immigrants adjusting to a new life while managing personal relationships amid emotional turmoil.
