I Love Melvin

Judy LeRoy, a chorus girl, is promoted to play a human football in Quarterback Kelly and heads to a dance rehearsal. On the way, she accidentally bumps into Melvin Hoover, Look photographer Mergo's bumbling assistant, in Central Park. After a brief argument, they go their separate ways.

That night, after seeing Judy's poster for Quarterback Kelly, Melvin uses his Look press credentials to watch her football number from backstage. He is drawn to her performance and begins imagining what she could mean to his future at Look.

After the show, Judy leaves with her suitor Harry Flack. Melvin offers to do a photo spread of her for Look, and she accepts, hoping exposure will help her win a larger place in Hollywood dreams.

Melvin visits Judy at her home to take pictures, and as they continue spending time together for photo shoots, they develop feelings for one another. The sessions bring them closer personally as well as professionally.

Judy's father Frank complains that she has been neglecting Harry while pursuing Melvin. Judy grapples with family expectations and the fear of losing her position and security.

After a night at the movies, Judy reveals the pressure to marry the wealthy Harry and asks Melvin to put her on the cover of Look. She hopes this publicity will calm her family and give her more freedom.

Desperate to win Judy's affections, Melvin enlists Mergo to create a fake Look issue with Judy's photograph on the cover. The next day, he plastered Look offices with Judy's photos, hoping for a breakthrough, but editors decide to feature a race horse on the cover instead.

Judy learns that Harry proposed to her the previous night, and he is coming to dinner to talk to her father. The family prepares for a formal discussion about Judy's future while she ponders the cover decision.

Melvin arrives and shows Judy the fake Look issue to explain the deception, but before he can fully explain, Judy excitedly reveals it to her family and announces she cannot marry Harry. Her choices become a matter of trust and truth rather than appearances.

When the next issue of Look comes out, Judy is devastated to find she is not on the cover. Melvin, too nervous to confess, tells them that Judy's picture will appear on the next issue, preserving hope but avoiding truth.

Frank angrily asks the Look editor when Judy's cover will come out. Judy and her mother rush to the Look offices, where editor Mr. Henneman reveals that the cover they saw was a fake, and Judy concludes Melvin created it.

Mergo reveals that Melvin has disappeared after quitting Look three weeks earlier. Judy tearfully confesses her love for Melvin as police begin searching for him.

In Central Park, Melvin, hiding, sees a man reading Look with Judy's picture and thinks it's another fake. He is chased by police, just as Judy and her family arrive to chase him. They reunite on the same spot where they first met, and Judy shows him the magazine announcing his disappearance before they kiss.
