Huesera: The Bone Woman

Valeria Hernandez informs her husband Raúl that she is pregnant with their first child. This revelation fills them both with excitement and joy as they begin to ponder their future as parents.

A few months later, Valeria takes Raúl to visit her family for Mother's Day. This visit allows Valeria to connect with her roots and share her happiness with relatives, although she begins to sense something unusual within herself during the gathering.

That night, while Raúl is asleep, Valeria witnesses a horrifying incident from her window where a woman jumps from a balcony and suffers a gruesome fall. When the woman mysteriously gets up with her body making unsettling noises, Valeria is left terrified, especially when she notices the woman's lack of eyes and mouth.

Valeria begins to experience more disturbing visions of the faceless woman, which disrupts her sleep. The mounting anxiety impacts her daily life, forcing Valeria to seek help from her aunt Isabel, who believes her and encourages her to visit a curandera for healing.

Valeria meets Ursula, a curandera, who performs a ritual to help alleviate her disturbing visions. Afterward, Ursula ominously hints at an alternative method for addressing Valeria’s issues, leaving her with both hope and unease.

While babysitting her sister's children, Valeria has a terrifying experience when she senses the presence of the woman in the house. Panicking, she locks the kids safely away and alerts the neighborhood watch, but the woman vanishes, leaving Valeria grappling with the death of the family dog found strangled.

The traumatic babysitting incident puts significant pressure on Valeria's relationship with her family, especially with her sister Vero. Vero expresses doubts about Valeria's parenting abilities, increasing Valeria's feelings of inadequacy and distress.

Valeria confides in Isabel about her latest troubling experiences and wishes to see Ursula again. At the same time, her relationship with Raúl deteriorates, particularly after a stressful dinner party where Valeria temporarily loses control of herself.

During a moment of high stress, Valeria steps out to smoke in the baby's room, only for the crib she lovingly made to suddenly ignite in flames. Raúl's accusations that Valeria is responsible for the incident deepen the rift between them.

After breaking up with Octavia, Valeria goes into labor and gives birth to a baby girl. Yet, instead of joy, Valeria feels overwhelming fear and disconnection, leading to disturbing actions soon after.

One night, overwhelmed by her baby's incessant crying, Valeria, seemingly under a spell, places her newborn daughter in the fridge. Upon waking, panic ensues as she cannot initially locate her baby, though she eventually finds her unharmed.

Feeling desperate and ashamed after the fridge incident, Valeria seeks out Octavia for forgiveness and decides to meet Ursula once more. This time, she hopes to find answers and regain control over her life and family.

Accompanied by Ursula, Isabel, and her baby, Valeria participates in a ritual in a secluded area of the woods. As part of the ceremony, she is submerged underwater and undergoes a surreal experience, culminating in a vision of her own engulfed in flames.

Upon resurfacing, Valeria finds herself alone and follows the sound of her baby's cries into the woods, where she encounters a disorienting and menacing mass of faceless figures. This encounter overwhelms her and brings forth visions of self-destruction.

After the harrowing events in the woods, Valeria reawakens, unharmed but deeply changed. She ultimately chooses to leave Raúl, entrusting him with their daughter, signaling the end of her troubled journey into motherhood.
