Following his mother's death, Chan Kai-yuk moves from Guangzhou to Hong Kong in hopes of reuniting with his estranged father who abandoned the family. He seeks to rebuild his life in a new city, facing an uncertain future. The move sets the stage for a chain of encounters that shape his fate.

He is determined to reconnect with his father, who left the family and started a new life in the city. He actively seeks out his father, hoping to bridge the past with the future. This pursuit exposes the emotional cost of abandonment and sets up Chan's struggles in the new environment.

Chan loses his job at a restaurant and cannot afford a place to stay, forcing him to sleep on the streets. The raw vulnerability of living on the margins forces him to rely on strangers and opportunities. This hardship becomes a catalyst for meeting Kam and Tse.

Kam, a chef at Beloved Community Centre, helps Chan after seeing him sleep rough. He offers Chan a potential job, but Chan needs proof of address before he can accept. This moment marks the first significant support Chan receives in the city.

Chan seeks help from Tse Yuen-fan, a middle-aged ex-singer living alone. She is initially suspicious, but Chan wins her over by giving her a dozen eggs as a gift and she agrees to rent him a place. The arrangement ties Chan into her routine and home life.

With a residential address secured, Chan begins working at Beloved and meets Xiaoyue, a social work intern from Guangzhou, and Fong, a social worker. He also develops a crush on Xiaoyue as they work on a food-sharing project. The new job provides purpose but also introduces personal and professional complexities.

Chan participates in a community food-sharing scheme at Beloved, collaborating with Xiaoyue and getting to know her better. He learns that she may have a boyfriend, which cools his romantic hopes and adds tension to their teamwork. The program deepens Chan's ties to the community.

The team administers a mini-mental state examination to Tse, yielding scores that signal mild cognitive disorder. At first Chan is indifferent, but he slowly understands the seriousness as Tse loses her way home. This diagnosis becomes a turning point for Chan's sense of responsibility.

Fearing the burden of potential caregiving, Chan flees the flat and disappears. When he sees Tse searching for him in nearby areas, he recalls his late mother and returns to care for her. He begins medical treatment to slow the progression of her condition.

With Fat's help, Chan locates his father and his new family and begins to rebuild those bonds. He spends time with his younger stepbrother at an indoor playground, treating him to ice cream before family tensions surface again. The moment tests Chan's commitment to his reunited family.

During a outing, the younger stepbrother's peanut allergy triggers an acute reaction and a hospital visit. Chan's father lashes out in anger and his new wife orders him to sever ties with Chan. This marks a painful rupture in Chan's family rebuilding.

Tse's condition worsens, but she drafts a will naming Chan the heir to her properties on the condition that he acts as her son. They begin living together as a family, with Tse indulging in drawing again and Chan starting a new job at a restaurant. This arrangement cements the chosen family dynamic.

In a Beloved visit, Chan learns that Xiaoyue has returned to Guangzhou and left a note revealing her admiration for Chan's devotion to his mother. Chan had not recognised her earlier, and her relationship with her boyfriend fails, but she values the human connections formed in Hong Kong, especially those with Chan and Tse.
