Howling V: The Rebirth

In 1489, a family living in a Budapest castle is slaughtered by a couple who then commit suicide. As the man lies dying, he discovers that a baby survived the massacre. The castle's dark past is left unresolved, casting a shadow over later generations.

In 1989, a mysterious Count invites Gail Cameron, Marylou Summers, Jonathan Hammet, David Gillespie, Ray Price, actress Anna, the Professor, and Dr. Catherine Peake to the castle's reopening. Peter and Susan also attend the gathering. The invitation promises a reunion that will uncover secrets tied to the castle's history.

During lunch, Hammet recounts the region's lore about wolves controlled by Satan, who can walk as a man by day and as a wolf by night. The Professor notes the castle's ancient origins may be tied to that myth and hints at a hidden past. The atmosphere thickens with foreboding as the story echoes through the halls.

The Professor stumbles upon a dungeon while following strange noises and becomes trapped inside. He is killed, and his disappearance remains a chilling mystery for the survivors. Silence returns to the corridors, amplifying the sense that something sinister is at work.

The next morning, the Count explains how a powerful family once owned the castle and was killed, hinting at a dangerous history. He expresses discomfort after the Professor's disappearance and hints at something sinister beneath the surface. That night, Gail senses something amiss, and a secret passage is discovered, revealing the first signs of a deadly threat.

Gail warns Ray that something is in the castle, and he discovers a secret passage. Gail is attacked by a werewolf, and Ray, finding the Professor's body along a retreat exit, is killed in the snow while trying to escape. The group realizes the danger is real and close at hand.

Peter sabotages David's camera, hindering their ability to document events and communicate with others. The act fuels mistrust and paranoia among the guests. The sense of danger grows as information becomes weaponized and fear spreads.

The Count searches for Cameron and Ray and discovers a secret passage and a maze of tunnels alongside Jack and David. The discovery deepens the mystery and suggests that escape or revelation may lie in the catacombs beneath the castle. Tension climbs as the group becomes split by the labyrinth.

A search party is organized to locate the missing guests. Jonathan and Marylin realize someone manipulated them into getting lost, and Jonathan is killed while Peter is injured. Marylou and Anna witness a werewolf attack, signaling that the threat is beyond suspicion and into reality.

Richard and Anna realize that none of them have living family members, suggesting they were chosen for a purpose and lured to the castle. The group grows more paranoid as everyone wonders who is truly in danger and who might be the next target. The shared vulnerability tightens the circle of fear.

David and Catherine find most of the bodies scattered around the castle and begin to suspect the Count is the killer. They attempt to alert the others, but they discover that Richard is already dead. The body count rises as the truth about the guests' lineage begins to emerge.

The Count declares that all the guests are descendants of the castle’s original family and thus werewolves who can only be destroyed by a relative. He locks himself in the dungeon alongside Peter and Susan, turning the situation into a lethal standoff. The revelation shifts the focus from a human killer to a primal curse.

David and Catherine plan to kill the Count and Susan, contrary to Anna's wishes. Anna releases the captives, but is left vulnerable to the dark turn of events as she becomes a potential target. The fragile balance of trust collapses under the pressure of the curse.

Peter attempts to kill David, but in a fateful misstep he kills Susan instead. Marylou then strikes, ultimately killing Peter. The body count continues to climb as loyalties fracture under the strain of the nocturnal predator at play.

David confronts the Count in a final struggle over a gun. Marylou retrieves the weapon and kills the Count. As the full moon rises, she smiles wickedly, revealing herself to be the true werewolf despite David's earlier insistence there was none.
