How to Frame a Figg

Hollis Figg is introduced as an earnest but not very bright man working as an accountant at City Hall. His close friends include a sanitation worker and Ema Letha, a waitress at the diner across the street, establishing his simple and straightforward life.

The Mayor, his staff, and Mr. Spaulding decide to hide their corrupt activities by firing three accountants and replacing them with a computer named LEO to manage the city’s finances more discreetly, keeping Figg as the one overseeing the machine due to his perceived lack of intelligence.

Figg accidentally detects inconsistencies in the city’s road works budget while operating LEO, which prompts the officials to promote him to the third floor and try to distract him with a Cadillac and a manipulative secretary, Yvonne Craig.

Under pressure and distraction, Figg unwittingly signs various documents and checks, making him complicit in the city officials' corruption while Yvonne Craig’s charm manipulates him.

The Assistant State Attorney General grows suspicious of the city council’s activities, and as he begins closing in, Figg realizes he is at risk of being implicated in the scheme.

Figg disguises himself as the mourning mother of Spaulding’s dead body, using this disguise to access City Hall and retrieve crucial evidence from LEO to clear his name.

Figg discovers that the computer’s memory bank, essential evidence, has gone missing, and finds Spaulding's deceased body in a closet, suspecting the city council has hidden the evidence.

Figg and his friend exume Spaulding’s coffin, plug in LEO, which explodes and releases armed cards containing the encrypted evidence needed for justice, marking a critical turning point.

Figg successfully secures the evidence encoded on the IBM cards, crucial to proving his innocence and exposing the corruption of the city officials.

Figg and Ema go on their honeymoon paid for by the grateful city, but they remain aware of the unresolved corruption and danger. They notice the Mayor’s men disguised at the hotel, subtly hinting that their enemies are still at large.

In a reveal, the disguised hotel staff remove Spaulding’s body from the closet on a dolly, indicating that the corrupt officials are trying to cover their tracks and conceal their crimes even after the scandal.
