The ending of House of Ga’a is a powerful culmination of the story's exploration of tyranny, betrayal, and justice. After years of ruling through fear and violence, Ga’a’s downfall is ultimately brought about by his own hubris and the people's desire for freedom. When Abiodun, with the support of the soldiers, captures Ga’a, they decide that he should face the consequences of his brutal rule. Instead of a formal execution, the people choose to punish him in a way that reflects their anger and disdain for his suffering. Ga’a is publicly dragged through the streets and tied to a tree, where he defiantly proclaims that his death will spell the end of Oyo-Ile. However, the people have already lost faith in him; they see him as a tyrant unworthy of respect. They burn him alive, signifying their rejection of his oppressive reign and their desire to move forward free from his oppressive legacy.
Throughout the chaos, Oyemekun, Ga’a’s son, manages to escape amid the violence. Severely wounded, he flees to Ilorin, where he is cared for and adopts a new identity as Gbangbalasa to avoid retribution. He survives to tell the story of his father’s rise and fall, bearing witness to how greed, overconfidence, and the abuse of power can lead to ruin. Meanwhile, the story ends with a poignant reminder that justice is served not through mercy, but through the collective anger and resolve of the people, who finally cast off the tyranny that had haunted their kingdom for so long.
