Sofia returns from a brief trip to Athens with a firmer sense of who she is apart from her mother’s constant demands. The fleeting romance with Ingrid collapses – Ingrid’s confession that she once pushed a swing too hard, causing her sister’s permanent brain damage, only sharpens Sofia’s awareness that love cannot thrive when it is built on hidden violence and endless neediness. Sofia tears away from Ingrid, giving her a final, stark farewell that forces the woman to confront the hollow core of her own compulsions.

Back in Almería, Rose’s plan to quit Gómez’s unconventional therapy and opt for an amputation looms. When Rose stages a fake hospital visit and tries once more to manipulate Sofia, the daughter finally does what she has been forced to swallow for months: she speaks. She repeats Rose’s own claim that she cannot walk, but this time the phrase is no longer a surrender – it is a verbal key that unlocks Sofia’s long‑suppressed agency. She walks to the roadside, pulls Rose out of the car, and leaves her standing in the path of an on‑coming truck. The camera lingers on Rose’s dress fluttering in the wind, the sound of the engine growing louder, and then cuts away, never confirming whether the vehicle strikes her.

The ending is deliberately ambiguous. Rose may be crushed, a final, brutal release from the paralysis that has haunted both women, or she may summon the strength to rise and walk away on her own. What matters is that Sofia is no longer chained to her mother’s lies and criticism; she has finally chosen to let go, even if that choice comes with the possibility of lethal consequences for Rose.
