In this enthralling story that explores life behind closed doors, we meet a young couple, Pippa and Thomas, who embark on a significant journey as they move into their very first apartment together in the lively city of Montreal. As they settle into their quaint new home, they can’t help but notice an intriguing figure across the street: a man who runs a professional studio, capturing the intimate moments of various models while his partner, Julia, is away. Pippa and Thomas soon become captivated by this mysterious couple, affectionately nicknamed “Margot” and “Brent.”
As they delve deeper into their fascination with their neighbors, Pippa’s curiosity leads her to acquire binoculars, and later, with Thomas’ assistance, a mirror designed for eavesdropping on the couple’s private conversations. Their voyeuristic adventures escalate when “Margot” and “Brent” throw a Halloween costume party, allowing Pippa and Thomas to sneak in by pretending to be guests. However, their excitement morphs into anxiety as they overhear confrontations involving “Margot” and “Brent,” where infidelity is revealed, culminating in a shocking confrontation that leaves them on edge.
The following day, Julia visits L’Optique for an eye exam from Pippa, ordering new glasses, which sparks an unexpected connection between the two. Pippa feels drawn to Julia’s vulnerability and invites her to spend time together, which leads to discussions about their shared concerns regarding “Brent” and his unfaithfulness. As they bond over their worries, Julia reveals her own struggles with her husband, Sebastian (Seb), a famous photographer whose betrayals have left her feeling isolated and alone.
Fully invested in Julia’s turmoil, Pippa unearths Seb’s indiscretions and resolves to anonymously expose him by hacking into their wireless printer. This decision ignites anger in Thomas when he finds out about her meddling, creating rifts in their relationship. The morning after these events, tragedy strikes when Julia is discovered dead in her bathroom, an apparent suicide leaving Pippa feeling responsible for her friend’s loss. Thomas, burdened with blame, chooses to end their relationship, leaving Pippa devastated.
As Pippa grapples with the fallout from her relationship, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the presence of Seb at a nearby pub. Their paths intersect once more when Seb invites Pippa to model for him at his apartment. The invitation proves hard to resist, and she finds herself yielding to his charm. Their encounter escalates into an intimate evening, yet their fleeting happiness is precariously balanced on the edge of lurking despair, fueled by the consequences of Thomas’s actions.
Returning home, Pippa’s moment of calm is shattered by a harrowing discovery; her beloved Thomas has taken his own life, leaving her in a state of shock and mourning. The following day brings little relief as Pippa is left to confront the depths of her sorrow.
In the days that follow, Pippa, accompanied by her confidante Ari, immerses herself in the arts by attending Seb’s exhibition, which reveals an unexpected connection to Julia. Pippa learns that she and Thomas had unknowingly been subjects of Seb’s art—a devastating realization. The twist deepens as Seb and Julia, under the guise of artistic collaboration, reveal that they were the landlords of the apartment rented by Pippa and Thomas, with a hidden clause allowing them to observe their tenants.
This shocking betrayal propels Pippa into a fierce determination to seek revenge on those who have wronged her. She orchestrates events that catapult Seb and Julia into a spiral of destruction, their lives disintegrating as they come to grasp the extent of Pippa’s wrath.
As this dark narrative unfolds, Pippa emerges victorious, casting aside her binoculars on the rooftop—once a symbol of her imprisonment in pain and deception. The new occupants of the apartment, two unsuspecting men, watch as Seb and Julia’s world crumbles, becoming a haunting reminder of the perilous results that arise when the lines between reality and artistic interpretation become tragically blurred.
