Joy, a Filipino domestic helper with a nursing degree, works in Hong Kong aiming to save money for a better future in Canada. She takes on side hustles despite violating her work permit and dreams of reuniting her family in Canada. Her family back home faces internal conflicts, especially regarding migration plans.

Joy's father, Celso, is determined to bring the family to Hong Kong to reunite with his wife Lita, who is married to Wayne and suffers abuse. Joy witnesses her family’s struggles and feels conflicted about leaving them behind as she pursues her own goals.

While working as a bar tout in Lan Kwai Fong, Joy catches the eye of Ethan, a Filipino bartender, when police conduct a random inspection. To distract them, she quickly kisses Ethan, highlighting her risky illegal work environment and her attempt to protect herself.

Despite initial resistance, Joy and Ethan share a one-night stand after a series of personal frustrations and uncomfortable encounters with her ex-boyfriend and employer. She rushes out crying, but Ethan follows to comfort her, forming a deeper emotional connection.

Ethan reveals his background: his family moved to Hong Kong, but he became estranged after moving to the U.S. following a breakup, and was later deported for overstaying. His brother Edward resented him for leaving their family to care for their ailing father in Cheung Chau.

Joy competes in a beauty pageant and finishes as first runner-up. Her jealousy flares when Tanya, Ethan's former girlfriend and a pageant judge, meets with Ethan, but Ethan reassures Joy, and their relationship becomes official.

Ethan plans to open his own bar to redeem himself and seeks Joy’s support, urging her to stay in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Joy receives confirmation of her departure to Canada, creating a conflict between her dreams and her relationship.

Joy confronts Lita about her abusive husband Wayne and learns that Lita no longer loves Celso. Lita reveals she was forced into a sham marriage for residency, leading Celso to call off family migration plans, disrupting Joy's hopes.

Ethan asks Joy to pretend to be an investor in his bar, risking her chance to go to Canada. When she refuses, Ethan confesses he wants to be with her, but Joy insists on pursuing her dreams. Ethan later reconciles with his family and offers to cherish their remaining days together.

Joy and Ethan spend their last days enjoying each other's company, profess their love, and Ethan promises they will meet again. Joy prepares to leave for Canada, and the film ends with her at the airport, symbolizing her pursuit of a better future.
