Hellboy II: The Golden Army

In the Christmas of 1955, a young Hellboy learns about the historical conflict between humans and magical beings. His adoptive father, Trevor Broom, shares a cautionary tale emphasizing the dangers of human greed and its impact on magical creatures.

After years of conflict, the goblin blacksmiths propose the creation of an indestructible golden mechanical army for King Balor. Spurred by his ambitious son, Prince Nuada, Balor commands the crafting of the Golden Army and a magical crown to control it.

Following the Golden Army's brutal attack on humanity, King Balor seeks a truce to prevent further bloodshed. The agreement allows humans to keep their cities while magical beings protect their forests, leading to temporary peace.

Discontent with the truce, Prince Nuada decides to exile himself from his father's court. To ensure the Golden Army does not return, he shatters the magical crown into three pieces, with one claimed by humans and two kept by the elves.

In modern times, Nuada reignites hostilities against humanity by retrieving the first piece of the crown from a chaotic auction. He slaughters everyone present, unveiling his ruthless ambition, and in a tragic turn, he kills his father for the second piece.

During the chaos ignited by her brother, Princess Nuala manages to escape with the last piece of the crown. Her journey is fraught with danger, as she seeks to prevent Nuada from fully unleashing the Golden Army upon humanity.

Amidst all the turmoil, Hellboy faces internal conflict in his relationship with his girlfriend, Liz. Struggling with the secretive nature of their organization, the B.P.R.D., Hellboy inadvertently reveals himself to the world during an investigation into the auction massacre.

In response to Hellboy's public exposure, the Bureau sends in a new agent, Johann Krauss, to take command of the situation. With his ability to control living or mechanical beings, Krauss joins Hellboy and Abe Sapien in their search for answers.

While exploring the hidden troll market beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, Abe Sapien encounters Princess Nuala. She possesses a crucial map to the Golden Army, and their instant connection complicates the already fraught mission to find her brother.

After a violent clash with Nuada's ally Wink and a forest spirit, Hellboy confronts his own loyalties. Nuada challenges him on defending humanity, forcing Hellboy to reflect on his identity as a creature perceived as a monster.

As Nuada tracks her down, Nuala destroys the map to the Golden Army and hides the final crown piece within one of Abe's books to protect it. In a heart-wrenching moment, she sacrifices herself to save Hellboy from her brother’s wrath.

Desperate to save Hellboy, Liz, Abe, and Krauss venture to Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. There, the Angel of Death warns them of Hellboy's potential doom, but Liz's plea for his life sparks a glimmer of hope.

The team arrives at the Golden Army’s hideout where a tense exchange ensues for Nuala's freedom. Abe sacrifices the last crown piece to reforge the crown, leading to the awakening of the formidable Golden Army.

In a gripping finale, Hellboy battles Nuada, ultimately besting him. However, his mercy leads to tragic circumstances as Nuala's death ends Nuada’s life and forces Hellboy to confront a perilous choice between humanity and magical beings.

With the crown melted, Liz makes a significant choice to end the Golden Army's threat. As the team departs, they face reprimands from Tom Manning, but Hellboy and Liz look forward to their uncertain future, revealing the news of their twins.
