As summer ends, Gerry is told by his parents that he will be sent to Camp Hope, a weight loss camp for boys. He is reluctant at first, fearing the judgment of others and the idea of forced dieting. The plan promises a summer of challenges, friendships, and a test of his resolve.

Gerry arrives at the camp and meets the enthusiastic camp counselor Pat, whose upbeat attitude contrasts with Gerry's skepticism. He also befriends the other campers, who have smuggled in enough junk food to get through the summer. This initial camaraderie hints at a rebellious spirit that will complicate Tony's regime.

On the first night, the Bushkins' camp declares bankruptcy and Tony Perkis Jr. buys Camp Hope to run it as a fitness empire. He announces a plan to transform the camp into a best-selling infomercial operation. The campers realize their carefree routines will be replaced by intense workouts and hard rules.

Tony switches out beloved activities like go-karts and The Blob for a punishing exercise regime. The campers feel the new discipline immediately as the pace grows brutal. Pat is replaced by the strict new counselor Lars, signaling a total overhaul of camp life.

When Tony purges the hidden food caches, Josh taunts him and is sent home without a refund. The move makes the campers realize Tony's power is absolute and that resistance will come at a cost. Gerry and friends begin to plot a way to fight back.

To humiliate the boys, Tony arranges a dance with the girls' camp, Camp Magnolia. Tim, Julie, and Pat urge the campers to find joy and solidarity despite the regime. The attempt fails to crush their spirit as the kids decide to stand together.

Josh returns to Camp Hope and reveals that his lawyer father plans to sue Tony for kicking his son out without a refund. The threat of legal action undermines Tony's authority and suggests there are real consequences to cruelty. The campers sense new leverage beyond fear.

Gerry and the others sneak into Tony's office to recover confiscated snacks and discover that Tony has intercepted all campers' letters to their families. They also uncover a secret stash of food being used by most campers to hide from the regime. The discovery deepens their resolve and gives them a practical edge in their plan.

To enforce his regime, Tony orders a brutal 20-mile hike for the campers. The group turns the plan back on him by luring him into a trap and imprisoning him in a makeshift cell, wired with a bug zapper. Pat, Julie, and Tim join the campers as they reclaim control of Camp Hope.

With Tony incapacitated, Camp Hope regains control and begins to repair its culture. Lars's authority crumbles as Pat and the supporters rally the campers around healthier routines. They celebrate with a binge-eating bonfire that emphasizes balance and friendship.

During visiting day, parents witness the camp's struggles on video, but Tony escapes his cell and confronts Gerry's father, knocking himself out in the scuffle. Tony Sr. arrives and promises refunds, then shocks everyone by announcing that the camp will be closed. The campers plead to keep Camp Hope open, and Pat is asked to take over leadership.

Under Pat's leadership, Camp Hope restores its favorite activities and prepares for the annual showdown with Camp MVP. Gerry wins the go-kart race for Camp Hope, but Pat discards the trophy to emphasize that fun matters more than winning, then kisses Julie. The summer ends with a sense of community, and the credits feature the Camp Hope song. In the post-credits scene, Tony is shown as an unsuccessful door-to-door salesman selling healing crystals.
