Gerry Garner's summer holiday begins with an unexpected twist as his parents send him to Camp Hope, a weight loss camp for boys. Despite his initial reluctance, he arrives at the camp ready to face whatever lies ahead.

Upon arriving at Camp Hope, Gerry meets Pat, a spirited camp counselor who quickly becomes a friend to the campers. Despite the camp's rigorous weight loss goals, Pat's supportive attitude provides encouragement to Gerry and his peers.

On the first night at camp, a shocking announcement is made that the Bushkin family, the original owners of Camp Hope, have gone bankrupt. Tony Perkis Jr. takes over the camp, intending to turn it into a fitness infomercial.

Under Tony's rule, the beloved camp activities like go-kart racing are replaced with harsh exercise routines. The campers, initially excited about the summer, experience the camp's atmosphere change dramatically as Pat is replaced by the strict Lars.

The campers find themselves in a daunting softball match against their rivals, Camp MVP. The competition is fierce, and the boys must confront their insecurities in this physically demanding match.

Tony discovers hidden food supplies in the campers' cabins and threatens to eliminate them. However, this act strengthens the friendship among the boys, particularly when Josh stands up for Gerry, resulting in his expulsion from camp.

In an effort to motivate the campers to lose weight, Tony organizes a humiliating dance with the girls from Camp Magnolia. However, instead of embarrassment, the counselors encourage the boys to enjoy themselves and have fun during the event.

After getting expelled, Josh returns to Camp Hope. He reveals that his father, a lawyer, has threatened legal action against Tony for expelling him without a refund, bringing new hope to the campers.

Determined to reclaim their snacks, Gerry and his friends break into Tony's office. There, they uncover a scandalous truth; Tony has been intercepting their letters home, which leads them to discover a hidden stash of food.

The boys craft a plan that leads to Tony falling into a pit, effectively capturing him in a makeshift cell. They use a bug zapper to keep him contained while they reclaim control of Camp Hope.

With the counselors' support, the campers throw a joyous binge-eating bonfire party to celebrate regaining control of Camp Hope. Lars, initially against them, sides with the campers, fearing repercussions from Tony.

The day arrives for parents to visit the camp, during which a video is shown depicting Tony's harsh treatment of the boys. The mood shifts dramatically when Tony tries to confront Gerry's father, culminating in a chaotic confrontation.

As Tony is taken away, his father arrives to announce that the camp will close, prompting the boys to rally for Camp Hope's survival. They attempt to persuade the camp's administration to keep the camp open.

Under Pat's leadership, the campers work to restore their favorite camp activities. The boys gear up for their annual competition against Camp MVP, determined to show their newfound unity and spirit.

During the climax of the annual competition, Gerry wins the go-kart race for Camp Hope. Pat illustrates that fun is more important than winning by tossing the trophy into the lake, culminating in a heartfelt kiss with Julie.
