Siddhartha, a talented medical student, faces financial difficulties that lead him to drop out of college. While studying, he invents a cure, but it is stolen and patented by his professor. Seeking solace from his troubles, he often spends time with Pochada, a struggling businessman who frequently clashes with his mother-in-law and wife. Together, they aspire to improve their financial situations. On the home front, Siddhartha deals with the challenges of caring for his ailing mother and helping his unmarried sister, who faces rejection yet remains hopeful for love.
One day, Siddhartha observes a young girl joyfully playing with a tire, sparking his curiosity about the nature of happiness. Driven by this encounter, he retreats to his room and experiments with various chemicals, ultimately creating a mixture he believes can bring happiness to anyone who consumes it. With plans for commercial gain, he begins placing the concoction into pill form. Meanwhile, Pochada focuses on marketing, labeling their product with cheerful happy emoji faces on jars. The duo swiftly experiences financial success despite their unregistered operation, as their "Happy Pills" miraculously uplift the spirits of even the most despondent individuals.
As success unfolds, the story shifts to Indrani, a reporter grappling with work-related stress and a recent breakup. Upon hearing about the burgeoning company and its "Happy Pills," she sets out to uncover the identity of the reclusive creator known as "Happy wala." As the company's popularity soars, the attention of local law enforcement and gangsters intensifies, leading to confrontations that put Siddhartha and Pochada in danger. One fateful day, a gangster associated with Pochada threatens him, demanding to meet Siddhartha. In an ingenious turn, Siddhartha misdirects the thug with faulty chemicals, resulting in a chaotic explosion that provides an escape for the two friends.
Later, while pursuing leads on "Happy wala," Indrani unexpectedly encounters Siddhartha on the streets; however, she remains unaware of his true identity. Their brief conversation hints at a budding connection, though Siddhartha slips away before she can discover more. Eventually, Indrani realizes through a TV broadcast that he is the creator behind the pills. The two begin interacting over the phone, suggesting a growing attraction. Meanwhile, Siddhartha's sister, Rini, attempts to match with a man, but he disapproves of the suitor's arrogance and pride.
As tensions rise, Indrani pays a visit to inform Siddhartha of impending police scrutiny, which escalates the conflict. Pochada is eventually apprehended while attempting to dispose of cash earned from their illicit sales. In a frantic escape, Siddhartha manages to flee the city, but during his flight, he learns about a sudden demonetization of ₹1,000 notes. In an act of defiance and despair, he tosses the notes from a bridge into the streets below before being arrested.
While in custody, Siddhartha faces interrogation as the police send his pills for testing. The results reveal nothing of significance. Subsequently, he is released, and in a television interview, he declares that his pills had no real impact on happiness and merely contained random chemicals. Ultimately, his journey culminates in a new direction, as his former customers swarm to his sweet shop, which he has rebranded as Happy wala's sweets, marking an unexpected but hopeful conclusion to his adventures.
