Meena, daughter of Verma, falls in love with Rajesh and they marry in secret. Rajesh is soon deployed to war, leaving Meena alone. She later gives birth to a baby girl, but is told the child is stillborn.

During a trip to Darjeeling, Kumar, a renowned Bombay stage actor, falls in love with Meena. They marry and return to Bombay to start a life together. This union later becomes a source of tension as Meena's past life unfolds.

Four years later, Meena's father Verma dies and reveals the truth about her daughter, leaving papers as proof. Meena visits an orphanage and brings home a girl (Sarika) as a potential daughter, but she does not reveal the girl's identity. Kumar objects to the plan to adopt without full disclosure, and Meena is forced to send the girl back to the orphanage.

At a Mumbai Christmas party, Mahender, a friend of Rajesh, begins blackmailing Meena over letters she had written to Rajesh. He demands that she visit him at his hotel. Kumar notices Meena's evasions and the growing clues that someone is watching them.

Driven by fear, Kumar travels to Pune and checks into a hotel under a false name and disguise. He isolates himself to keep from being pulled into the scandal and to seek a way to clear Meena's name. The move marks a dangerous turn as the investigation tightens around him.

That night, Kumar returns to Bombay and finds Meena dead, her chest shot through. He considers calling the police but realizes his own fingerprints and disguise would implicate him in the murder. He decides against exposing himself at the scene and instead returns to the hotel he had used earlier. The murder appears to be linked to Meena's secrets and the blackmail he suspects.

The next day, Inspector Ashok is assigned to the case and immediately notices that Kumar seems to know details about the crime without being told. With each clue, Kumar becomes the prime suspect in a murder he didn't commit. He contemplates fleeing again to escape the mounting danger. The investigation intensifies as the truth begins to surface.

Kumar refuses to give up and confides in his lawyer friend Jagmohan. He searches Meena's room and finds a key to a hotel room, a lead that could expose the killer. He prepares to confront the truth despite the danger.

Kumar visits the hotel room and is surprised to meet Captain Rajesh there. Rajesh reveals that he is Meena's first husband who survived the war, and that their daughter Sarika witnessed the murder; the act was captured on a video recording. The two men realize they must locate Sarika to solve the case. They decide to trace Sarika to the hill station of Ooty.

Rajesh and Kumar track Sarika to Ooty, determined to bring the truth to light. Unknown to them, Inspector Ashok continues to pursue them in parallel. They prepare to confront Tejpal, the man connected to Sarika.

Inspector Ashok, tracking them in Ooty, arranges their arrest with the help of the local police. The arrests set the stage for presenting the crucial evidence that points to Tejpal as the killer. The investigation moves toward the final confrontation.

They locate Sarika at Tejpal's house, and Shabnam and Jagmohan arrive with the videotape as proof. It is revealed Tejpal is the killer. This evidence shifts the case from suspicion to a confirmed accusation.

Tejpal pulls a gun and threatens to kill Sarika. Captain Rajesh intervenes to protect her and is shot in the process. Inspector Ashok shoots Tejpal, ending the danger and bringing the case to a close.
