Halloween

On Halloween 1978 in Haddonfield, Michael Myers murders his school bully, his alcoholic stepfather, his abusive sister, and her boyfriend. He spares his baby sister Boo. The brutal killings set off a statewide case that will culminate in a formal trial years later.

Michael is found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Dr. Samuel Loomis begins treating him, and Deborah visits him during the early sessions.

Over the following years in confinement, Michael withdraws from people, including his mother, and fixes on his papier-mâché masks. The quiet routine masks a growing disconnect from humanity.

During a visit, Michael murders a nurse, and Deborah, overwhelmed by the events, takes her own life. The family tragedy compounds the clinic's grim atmosphere.

For about fifteen years, Michael remains largely silent and continues crafting masks. Loomis ultimately closes Michael's case, moving on from him to other patients.

Michael escapes the sanitarium, kills guards and staff, and steals a truck driver's clothes. He heads back to his hometown of Haddonfield to continue his quarry.

Michael arrives at his abandoned childhood home and recovers a kitchen knife and the Halloween mask he hid there. This re-establishes tangible links to his past actions.

Laurie Strode, Annie Brackett, and Lynda Van Der Klok prepare for Halloween, while Michael observes them from a distance. His focus converges on Laurie as a key target.

Lynda and her boyfriend Bob are murdered by Michael at the abandoned home, and he then heads toward the Strode residence in search of Laurie.

Laurie is babysitting Tommy and Michael murders her parents, Mason and Cynthia. The danger becomes personal for Laurie as she realizes the killer is after her.

Dr. Loomis arrives in Haddonfield and obtains a handgun, trying to warn Sheriff Brackett about Michael. Brackett reveals that Laurie is Michael's baby sister, adopted by the Strodes.

Annie is attacked by Michael after he kills Paul at the Wallace residence, leaving Annie badly injured. Laurie learns of the danger and moves to aid her friend.

Michael kidnaps Laurie and brings her back to their old house. He shows her a photo of them together, attempting to prove that she is his sister.

Loomis shoots Michael three times after Laurie wounds him in the neck, but Michael overpowers Loomis. Laurie hides in the walls as they duel on a balcony, eventually falling; the night ends with sirens approaching and Laurie firing a final shot.
