Made in 1980 but blocked by an ideological ban, the drama premiered nine years later. Pišta, a short, unattractive single sorting letters on a freight wagon, drinks to cope. He yearns for Viera, an older cargo loader who prefers another man, leaving him only with a mother who sometimes fails to recognize him. It won a Silver Bear for Best Director at Berlin.
