1

Unexplained malfunctions hit the NM desert facility

Unaccountable, deadly malfunctions begin occurring at the top secret facility located under the New Mexico desert, threatening the construction of a space station. The incidents kill staff and disrupt critical systems, signaling a deliberate interference rather than chance failures. The atmosphere becomes tense as the facility scrambles to identify the cause.

2

OSI investigator is summoned

Dr. David Sheppard from the OSI arrives to investigate the mysterious deaths and malfunctions. He teams with Joanna Merritt who is already present at the site, and together they begin cataloging the failures. The stakes rise as the pattern points to sabotage rather than random accidents.

3

Sabotage attributed to NOVAC

Sheppard and Merritt determine that the deaths among the 150 scientists are the result of sabotage targeting NOVAC, the facility's nuclear operative computer. They realize someone is remotely manipulating the system and causing the deadly malfunctions. This realization reframes the crisis as an external attack rather than a technical glitch.

First casualties and attacks

The unseen enemy kills five scientists and two human test subjects in quick succession and also takes Major Howard, the complex's chief of security. Madame Elzevir and Dr. Peter Burden are attacked but manage to survive despite injuries. The toll underscores the real and immediate threat facing the operation.

Hidden transmitter built into NOVAC

Sheppard discovers a powerful radio transmitter and receiver secretly built into NOVAC during its construction in Switzerland, without the designer Zeitmans knowledge. This covert hardware enables the attacker to control NOVAC and coordinate the sabotage from afar. The discovery expands the scope of the mystery beyond isolated malfunctions.

The hostile robot plane appears

An unseen enemy robot plane with a fiberglass body that does not register on radar flies over the complex. It beams precisely focused ultra high frequency signals toward NOVAC, directing its actions remotely. The plane marks the beginning of the controlled attack on the facility.

7

Gog and Magog come to life

NOVAC activates Gog and Magog, two massive robotic enforcers with multiple arms and powerful tools. The rogue robots begin carrying out commands under the computer's control, expanding the threat beyond the facility's electrical systems. The risk escalates as the robots menace the scientists and security teams.

Magog heads to the reactor

Magog is directed to the nuclear reactor control room and pulls the safety rod from the reactor core, initiating a chain reaction that could destroy the entire facility. The clock starts ticking as red danger alarms flash through the ventilation system. Sheppard realizes the impending catastrophe and races to intervene.

Sheppard stops the disaster

Sheppard arrives in time to push the safety rod back into the pile, halting the chain reaction. He then battles the robot with a flame thrower, delivering a critical counterattack and disabling the machine. The fight showcases his quick thinking under extreme pressure.

Gog makes a last move

Gog moves to confront the human attackers and pursues Sheppard after Magog is dealt with. Sheppard uses the flame thrower nozzle as a makeshift weapon to strike the robots electronic tubes, causing the machine to falter. The battle ends with Gog nearly collapsing but still threatening.

Jets destroy the enemy plane

American F-86 and F-94 jets locate and destroy the enemy plane, ending NOVAC's reign of terror. The destruction of the plane stops the remote control attack and removes a key threat from the facility. Gog then appears to go still as the other robot falters.

Radiation exposure and hospital

Van Ness reveals that Sheppard and Merritt have been exposed to a radiation dose from the reactor. Their film badges turn red, but the exposure is not life threatening and both are expected to recover. Merritt is treated for stress at the facility hospital, and the pair begin to recover in the days that follow.

Briefing for the Secretary of Defense

Dr. Van Ness explains to the Secretary of Defense that despite the setbacks the project remains on schedule. He mentions that a working model of the space station will soon be launched into orbit and equipped with telescopes and cameras to monitor for sabotage. The statement reassures officials that they will not be taken by surprise again.

Launch day

The next morning the launch proceeds without a hitch and the baby space station is sent toward orbit as planned. The successful launch validates the defense department stance and the promise that nothing will surprise them again. The team continues to monitor for future sabotage while the space station powers up in orbit.
