Ghost in the Noonday Sun

After Dick Scratcher murders Captain Ras Mohammed and his three crewmen to claim the treasure, he discovers the map showing the treasure location was drawn in disappearing ink. This means only Scratcher knows where the treasure is buried, but he cannot read the map himself. The ink eventually fades, making the map completely useless and forcing Scratcher to rely on other methods to find the loot.

Scratcher believes the young Irish boy Jeremiah can see ghosts and hopes he can contact Captain Ras Mohammed's spirit to reveal where the treasure is buried. The pirates abduct Jeremiah specifically because they think his ghost-seeing ability will help guide them to the hidden riches.

When the pirate ship is approached by the Royal Navy, Scratcher and his crew pose as Portuguese fishermen claiming to suffer from the "red plague." This convincing disguise convinces the British Navy to let them pass, fearing contagion. The ruse buys the pirates valuable time and allows them to continue sailing toward Algiers unimpeded.

After fourteen years at sea, the pirate ship finally makes landfall near Ireland. However, Scratcher remains convinced they have reached a Greek island rather than Ireland. This reflects his stubborn delusion and perhaps his reluctance to accept how long their voyage has taken or where it has actually led them.

The pirates dig up Billy Bombay's hidden treasure chest, which contains silver cannonballs. Rather than simply keeping the silver, they load the cannonballs into cannons and fire them at Billy Bombay and his six brothers during an attack. Only Billy survives the brutal assault, while the pirates essentially weaponize his own hidden wealth against him.

After killing Captain Ras Mohammed to seize his treasure, Dick Scratcher becomes haunted by the ghost of the very captain he murdered. The spectral Ras Mohammed offers cryptic guidance throughout Scratcher's desperate search for the buried riches. The ghost serves as a supernatural element that complicates Scratcher's quest, though the ghost's exact appearances and instructions remain somewhat mysterious within the plot.

The film ends with Dick Scratcher buried up to his neck in sand on the island, while Billy Bombay is tied to a tree. The two exchange insult-heavy taunts as their rivalry continues unresolved. Meanwhile, Pierre Rodriguez, Abdullah, and Jeremiah have discovered Ras Mohammed's treasure separately, but the final scene leaves the situation chaotic and the characters' fates uncertain.
