In the dense forest region of Aanegudde, an elephant reserve, a tense confrontation unfolds as a state minister arrives at the stronghold of a local don, Rana John Vijay. Rana uses raw power to coerce the minister into signing a deal to open a resort in Aanegudde, the minister relenting only after witnessing his bodyguard fall to Rana’s merciless claim. The incident sets a grim tone, revealing the ruthless lengths Rana will travel to seize control of the land and its people.

The story then shifts to Mysore, where Prakash Raj introduces an ancient temple in the royal city, the renowned Shankara Narayana temple, overseen by a pious Muth and headed by the pontiff Anant Nag. The temple’s reputation rests on its apolitical stance, revered by both Shaivites and Vaishnavites. Into this sacred atmosphere steps the hero, Krishna, a cheerful, down-to-earth young man who runs a modest loan-financing outfit and is deeply devoted to his family and the Muth. Krishna’s family has long pledged that he would one day become the next Pontiff, a path that excites as much as it unsettles him. To test his willingness, the pontiff lays down a condition: Krishna must donate an elephant to the Muth if he cannot accept the spiritual leadership.

Krishna resists the idea of renouncing worldly life, employing a string of light-hearted evasions, but every time he tries to turn away, the Muth and its followers shield him with respect and care. Eventually, Krishna sets out for the forest to find the required elephant, aided by the capable forest officer Rangayana Raghu who guides him to the indigenous tribes guarding the elephants. Among these forest people, Krishna befriends a young ecologist, Amulya, and forms a bond with a mighty and reclusive elephant named Kalinga, whose fearsome presence unsettles the local tribes. The plot thickens as Rana hatches a plan to push the tribal communities off their ancestral lands to build his resort, prompting Krishna and Amulya to join the villagers’ resistance. When Rana’s henchmen advance, Krishna’s resolve is steeled, and Kalinga comes to his aid, ferociously standing between the invaders and the people.

A tribal chief recognizes a deeper destiny at work, narrating the legend of a legendary warrior named Baahubali who once defended Karunadu. This Baahubali defeated Verma, though not without tragedy: Verma’s cunning minister poisons him, and in a dramatic clash, Baahubali overcomes Verma’s army but loses his beloved elephant Balarama. For his valor and sacrifice, Baahubali is posthumously named Gajakesari by the king of Karunadu. The tale reverberates through Krishna’s present life, as the chief’s words hint that Krishna may be the reincarnation of Baahubali, destined to protect the forest and its people once again.

Armed with this knowledge, Krishna confronts Rana and his men, nearly losing his life before the Muth’s pontiff senses the danger and performs a solemn Mrityunjaya Homa at the temple. The ritual strengthens Krishna, and with Kalinga’s formidable assistance, he defeats Rana and his henchmen, turning the tide in favor of the tribal villagers. The Pontiff eventually reaches the remote village and reveals a guiding truth: Krishna’s duty is to safeguard the tribes rather than seize the throne. The blessing culminates in a hopeful twist—Krishna is affirmed in his path to protect his people, and he is blessed to marry Meera Amulya, embarking on a peaceful and prosperous life with his loved ones.

Throughout, the film blends mythic memory with present-day action, weaving a tale of duty, honor, and reverence for the land and its guardians. The echo of Baahubali’s legacy enhances Krishna’s journey, casting him as a rightful heir to courage and compassion, while the lush forest and sacred temple provide a living backdrop for a story about choosing responsibility over personal ease.
