On a lonely stretch of the Texas highway, the fugitives are made up of two siblings whose bond is as reckless as their crimes. The elder, Seth Gecko, and his volatile brother, Richie, wipe out a small-town clerk and a Texas Ranger at a rural liquor store, leaving behind a wrecked scene and a trail of fear. As they push forward, Richie nurses a gunshot wound to his hand and drives to a nearby motel with a plan that quickly spirals out of control when they seize a hostage bank teller. In a brutal turn, Seth returns from a routine errand to discover that Richie has raped and murdered their captive, plunging the night into chaos and setting the stage for a longer, darker road ahead.
Into this violent maelstrom steps Jacob Fuller, a widowed pastor wrestling with his faith, who arrives at the motel with his two teenage children, Scott and Kate. A tense encounter with the Gecko brothers leads to a blunt, terrifying ultimatum: the Fullers are kidnapped and forced to become part of the Geckos’ plan to reach Mexico. The group finally makes a break for the border, where a breathless border crossing is met with a wary clearance, and the boundary between law and lawlessness blurs under a desert sky.
Once in Mexico, the fugitives seek refuge at a notorious all-night desert club known as Titty Twister, where Carlos—an enigmatic contact—will meet them at dawn to guide them to El Rey, a hidden destination tied to a darker promise. The club, with its rowdy atmosphere and questionable patrons, becomes a crucible where fear and calculation are tested. Inside, a standoff with the doorman gives way to a chaotic spectacle as the bar’s occupants reveal themselves to be more than they seem. The encounter escalates quickly into a violent skirmish, with Seth and Richie fighting to maintain control while Jacob tries to keep his family alive.
Amid the revelry, a dancer named Santánico Pandemonium enters the fray, and the night takes a dreadful turn as the club’s other dancers reveal their true nature. The violence explodes into a blood-soaked nightmare: the patrons are transformed, the decayed remains of the club’s staff rise, and the survivors realize that the venue is a gateway to something far more deadly than a simple robbery. Kate acts decisively, using a cross pendant to dispatch the doorman while Santánico’s monstrous form launches an assault that ends when Seth shoots a wooden chandelier, bringing it down on the vampire and eliminating her.
As the chaos continues, more vampires emerge from the shadows, and the survivors—Seth, Jacob, Kate, and Scott—fight for their lives with improvised weapons crafted from truck cargo looted in the melee. The battle tests loyalties and limits as Frost, a burly Vietnam veteran, and Sex Machine—a stranger with a hidden bite—play pivotal roles in the night’s bloody calculus. The survivors gradually learn that their foes are not merely undead but relentless predators, capable of turning even the most steadfast defender into something else entirely.
The night grows darker when Sex Machine proves to be more than a mere opponent, transforming into a creature that stalks the group and threatens them from within their own defenses. Frost, who has become entangled in the violence, faces a brutal end as Jacob’s allegiance to survival takes on a new, dangerous form: he himself begins to change. Scott, torn between fear and instinct, makes a fateful choice that pushes him toward a grim fate, and Kate is forced to confront the ultimate cost of staying alive.
With dawn’s first light finally piercing the walls, the vampires’ power wanes, and the survivors brace for the last stand. As the sunlight narrows the night, the team realizes that escape hinges on one last, desperate gambit. Carlos arrives with bodyguards who blast open the door and flood the room with daylight, annihilating the remaining vampires and ending the immediate threat.
In the aftermath, Seth negotiates with Carlos, yielding a smaller fee to enter El Rey, while Kate, offered a chance to join him, chooses a harder road—one that takes her away from the Geckos and toward an uncertain future. The Titty Twister’s true nature is revealed as well, perched atop a buried Aztec temple, surrounded by decades of abandoned trucks, a stark reminder that the night’s violence has unearthed something ancient and enduring beneath the desert’s surface.
This harrowing journey blends desperate human choices with supernatural dread, transforming a road trip into a survival saga where every decision shapes who lives, who dies, and who is forever changed by the darkness that emerges when the night finally breaks.
