Inside the traveling spacecraft, Mike Colby awakens encapsulated in a glass chamber, resembling hibernation stasis. He is alerted by SAM-104, the robot pilot, to an impending attack on their ship, marking the beginning of their perilous journey.

With quick reflexes, Mike teams up with SAM-104 to fend off the attackers by firing missiles. Their cooperation highlights the urgency of the situation as they navigate their ship under siege in deep space.

Shortly after defending their ship, SAM-104 informs Mike that the Federation has extended his mission. They redirect their course to the desolate planet Xarbia to repair a security lab, entering hyperspace along the way.

Upon reaching Xarbia, Mike steps onto the desolate surface illuminated by two orbiting suns. He is introduced to Dr. Gordon Hauser and Dr. Barbara Glaser, who explain their research in bacteriological genetic engineering.

In a chaotic lab, Mike discovers the horrendous aftermath of experiments conducted on rabbit carcasses. The scientists introduce Subject 20, an octopus-like creature capable of altering its genetic structure, igniting concerns among the team.

A sudden distress signal disrupts dinner as Tracy discovers Jimmy under attack by a slimy blob from Subject 20. Despite reassurance from Gordon, the situation escalates, revealing the creature's terrifying nature.

Earl watches shocking security footage before being drawn to a dark corridor. There, he encounters the monstrous creature, leading to a disastrous confrontation and his eventual demise.

The next morning reveals the horrifying transformation of Jimmy's body, as Cal notices the start of his metamorphosis into a gelatinous state. The discovery heightens the team's urgency to address the creature's growing threat.

The surface of Xarbia turns into a battleground when the creature unexpectedly attacks and devours Gordon. This shocking event prompts the remaining crew members to regroup and strategize against the relentless threat.

In an attempt to communicate, Barbara types out a message asking if coexistence with the creature is possible. Tragically, her efforts backfire as the creature responds with violence, stabbing her with a tentacle.

Cal, facing his impending death, decides to inject his tumor into a sample of Gordon's mutating tissue as a last-ditch effort to combat the creature. His actions underscore the dire circumstances as his life slips away.

As Subject 20 bursts into the lab, a frantic defense ensues. Mike, alongside SAM-104, attempts to entice the creature with Cal's excised tumor, leading to a climactic struggle as they confront the grotesque force at play.

Mike successfully offers the tumor to the mutant, which reacts violently before collapsing and dying. The cost of their survival becomes evident as remnants of the crew and the horrors faced linger in their minds.

Surrounded by the carnage of their fallen crew, Mike and Tracy reflect on the ordeal that nearly wiped them out. Amidst the ruins, they are left to grapple with the weight of their survival at such a significant cost.
