That evening, while searching for food, Cookie meets King-Lu, a fugitive fleeing from Russian pursuers. Despite their initial differences, Cookie's act of kindness in sharing his supplies fosters a deep and unexpected friendship.

The following day, Cookie faces bullying from a fellow trapper, only to be defended by King-Lu. This moment strengthens their bond as they part ways, knowing they have each other's backs.

In Fort Tillicum, Cookie seeks refuge from the wilderness in a bar, where he hears about the arrival of a much-anticipated milk cow. This news piques his interest, as he dreams of using the milk for his culinary creations.
