The Benedetti fortune stems from gold looted from the French army in the 18th century. When Jean, the lieutenant who guarded the treasure and lover of Elisabette Benedetti, is wrongly executed, she curses the family. Misfortune haunts each generation, and the newest Benedettis fear the curse will be passed to their children.
