Joy returns home and places the bagua at their front door. Soon afterward, her friend Alice helps secure a promotion for her and Joy also wins a prize at the supermarket, as if luck is following the mirror's presence. The sequence marks the start of a string of fortunate events.

The next day, Joy reads a local newspaper revealing Evart Mendoza, the man who left the mirror, was run over by a Rabbit Liner bus. She learns that Evart was born in the year of the Rabbit, linking him to the omen. The article intensifies the sense that the bagua curses are tied to birth years.

Joy later finds out that Aling Biring died from leptospirosis. Biring’s birth year is the Rat, which deepens the pattern that fortune and fate are linked to zodiac years. The revelation adds a darker layer to the mirror's influence.

Denton’s friend Billy warns of suspicious events around the neighborhood, including Mang Nestor’s stabbing at a cockfight brawl. Nestor was born in the year of the Rooster, reinforcing the recurring year-based fate motif. The warning escalates the sense that the bagua draws danger to Joy’s household.

Joy is haunted by the ghosts of Nestor, Biring, Evart, and a mysterious woman. The apparitions stalk her house, turning the living space into a haunted stage. The haunting marks the bagua’s tangible threat to Joy and her family.

Joy visits Evart’s widow Lily to learn the mirror’s history. Lily explains how the bagua brought prosperity but always preceded a death, including her husband’s, after he tried to dispose of the mirror. She urges Joy to return the mirror, but Joy refuses.

After Joy inherits from a late client, her husband Inton and their children discover the corpse of a local security guard who had looked into the bagua earlier. The guard dies of a snakebite, revealing he was born in the year of the Snake. The discovery sharpens the sense that each fortune comes with a deadly price.

Joy, Alice, and their psychic friend Thelma consult geomancer Hsui Liao. He explains the bagua’s origin in Shanghai and the Lotus Feet tragedy that cursed the mirror, taking the soul of anyone who sees their reflection in it. The lore provides a chilling framework for the ongoing deaths.

Alice, born in the year of the Horse, is assaulted by a drunk neighbor and dies after falling from a window onto crates of Red Horse Beer bottles. The death confirms the mirror’s deadly touch and the price of luck. Joy’s suspicion about her husband’s affair grows as the danger closes in on her circle.

Joy’s family begins to be haunted more intensely and they attempt to destroy the mirror, but Alice’s spirit blocks their efforts. The family is driven to flee as the hauntings mount. The bagua’s curse is established as a cycle that demands a heavy toll.

Hsui Liao calls Joy with instructions to end the curse by rejecting luck and destroying the bagua. A sudden accident injures Billy, and Joy realizes Inton is the next target when she notices her blood type matches Billy’s. She hurries to warn Inton and Dina but arrives too late.

Dina and Inton are murdered by Dina’s husband Louie at a motel; Louie bears a dog tattoo, marking him as born in the year of the Dog. The killings underscore the reach of the curse into Joy’s surviving circle. Joy confronts the consequences of attempting to intervene too late.

Joy destroys the bagua in a final bid to end the curse.
