Graduate student Greg Chambers detects a sudden fissure on the ocean floor off Florida’s secluded Pajaro Island and warns his professor, Anthony McAlister, that a massive quake is imminent. The epicenter lies beneath the island’s new resort, where Anthony’s estranged wife Lynn works. When the earthquake strikes, the bridge to the mainland collapses, downtown is devastated, and Lynn and three others become trapped in the resort’s utility tunnels. After Greg dies attempting a rescue, Lynn must rally the survivors as aftershocks worsen the unstable tunnels, fighting to escape the collapsing island.
