Set in post‑war Rome, struggling journalist Enrico learns that his younger brother Lorenzo has died. He reflects on their fraught childhood: Enrico grew up with their modest, loving grandmother, while Lorenzo was taken in by a wealthy aristocrat and raised as a gentleman. Their reunion in 1930s Florence makes Enrico the reluctant guardian of his spoiled brother, leaving him burdened by a deep, conflicted sense of guilt, love, and resentment.
