Mofe's passport is stolen during a break-in that occurs shortly after the deaths of his sister Precious and her children. This theft effectively ends his dream of migrating to Spain, as he cannot obtain a visa without a passport. The loss represents another devastating blow on top of the tragedy, making his path to emigration nearly impossible.

Earlier, Mofe is shown meticulously gathering his documents and visa paperwork, emphasizing how much the passport means to his dream.

Precious and her two children die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a faulty generator in their apartment. Mofe discovers them dead when he returns home one evening. The tragedy is sudden and accidental, yet it shatters Mofe's world and derails his plans to migrate to Spain.

Rosa agrees to meet Peter because her boss at the salon offers to introduce her to the wealthy Lebanese businessman who can help with her visa and travel documents to Italy. Despite the personal cost involved, Rosa sees it as a potential route out of poverty for herself and her sister Grace. She is desperate to escape the grinding hardship of Lagos.

Grace, Rosa's teenage sister, becomes pregnant by Obinna, who is the landlord's son. This unexpected pregnancy throws their already precarious situation into new jeopardy. When Grace later falls ill and is hospitalized, Rosa faces mounting medical bills, further straining her finances and complicating her dreams of migrating to Italy.
