Evan Almighty

Evan Baxter, a former local TV newsman, is newly elected to Congress. He relocates with his family from Buffalo to northern Virginia, seeking to fulfill his campaign promise of changing the world.

On his inaugural day at Congress, Evan encounters his coworkers, including Marty and Rita Daniels, as well as Chuck Long, a top congressman. Amidst the excitement, Evan begins to experience strange incidents in his new life.

Evan notices that animals start to follow him around inexplicably. This unusual behavior raises eyebrows and adds to the mystery of his new position.

Evan finds that his beard grows back rapidly, no matter how often he tries to shave it. This peculiar phenomenon becomes a symbol of his unusual circumstances as he grapples with his role.

Evan's home is inundated with strange deliveries of ancient tools and wood. These items hint at the impending task he must undertake, connected to his growing realization of a larger purpose.

Evan starts noticing the number '614' showing up in various places, prompting his curiosity. He later discovers that it references a biblical passage instructing Noah to build an ark, deepening the mystery.

God reveals Himself to Evan, commanding him to build a replica of Noah's Ark in preparation for an impending flood. This surreal encounter begins Evan's change from a typical politician to a divine messenger.

Initially, Evan's family dismisses his claims as a mid-life crisis. However, as the events unfold, his sons become intrigued and supportive, while his wife Joan remains skeptical and conflicted.

Distraught by Evan's obsession, Joan decides to take their children to her mother's house, hoping to escape the chaos. Meanwhile, Evan persists in building the ark alone, drawing media scrutiny.

At a diner, God, disguised as a waiter named 'Al Mighty', speaks to Joan about the importance of family unity. This conversation inspires her to return home and support Evan in his divine mission.

As the flood date approaches, it is revealed that Chuck Long has commissioned a poorly-designed dam that could exacerbate the situation. This complicates Evan's efforts and raises tensions.

On September 22, Evan prepares to load animals onto the ark amid skepticism from the public. As the skies remain clear, doubt spreads among onlookers about the validity of his claims.

Just as doubt sets in, Joan urges Evan to give up, but he insists on staying. Suddenly, the dam bursts, leading to a dramatic flood that engulfs the streets of Washington D.C.

With the streets flooded, citizens board Evan's ark, which floats downstream to dock at the Capitol. This unprecedented event shifts public perception and support.

Later on a family hike, God appears to Evan again. He emphasizes the importance of Acts of Random Kindness (ARK), guiding Evan to believe that positive impacts can indeed change the world.
