The film opens with Vicky [Siddharth] lying in a coma, hooked up to life support, and immediately sets up two parallel threads that run through the entire story: a vivid color world and a stark black-and-white counterpart, both centered on the same man and his baffling reality. A Mumbai crime branch detective begins to piece together what happened, rummaging through the protagonist’s belongings, deciphering scribbled notes, and discovering a mysterious pill that seems to hold the key to the mystery. As the investigation unfolds, two suspects are detained and interrogated, leaving the truth to emerge from a labyrinth of dreams and deceits.

In the color reality, Vicky hails from a small village and works as an usher in a cinema theater owned by Durai [Aadukalam Naren]. He battles chronic insomnia, and a shady drug dealer pitches Lucia pills as a miracle cure—promising the wearer the life they dream of, but with a brutal caveat: once you stop taking them, those cherished dreams turn into nightmare-reality. With the aid of Lucia, Vicky slips into a dream where he becomes Vignesh, a celebrated film actor surrounded by familiar faces he recognizes from his real life. The black-and-white dream-life unfurls with glossy glamour and looming threats, and a sense that success has a heavy price.

The dream version of Vignesh’s world collides with the real-world strands when Divya [Deepa Sannidhi], a model in the dream who is also a waitress in reality, enters his life. In the dream, Divya and Vignesh click quickly, but friction soon arises as Vignesh voices his discomfort with Divya’s involvement in the film industry. In the real world, Vicky’s attempts to win Divya’s heart face fewer triumphs: she initially rejects him because of his modest salary, but her affection grows as she sees his stubborn integrity and humility. Divya’s insistence that he better himself and pursue a steadier life becomes a turning point, yet those real-life ambitions are complicated by the shadow of debt and violence surrounding Durai.

As Vicky navigates this double life, the consequences in the real world spiral out of control. Divya’s efforts to elevate Vicky’s prospects prove futile, and the pressures around Durai culminate in a fatal clash with goons, forcing Vicky to confront the danger that haunts the theatre. Undeterred, Vicky—backed by a circle of foreign friends—redecorates the theatre and even reissues Durai’s film, trying to preserve his mentor’s legacy. The tension between loyalty and survival intensifies as Vignesh’s dream-world protector role grows, and the line between dream and reality becomes shakier by the day. Eventually, Vicky’s aspiration to protect Durai and Divya becomes entangled with a decision that pushes him toward deeper isolation.

In a pivotal turn, the dream Durai is kidnapped and Vignesh rescues him with the aid of the police, but the danger is far from over: the contract killer who stalks them remains at large. The emotional toll pushes Vignesh toward final acts of detachment: he breaks away from Durai’s circle, sends away his entourage, and seeks solitude. Then the dream takes a further dark turn as a visually disturbed Vignesh finds himself in a drab room, and a glowing torch illuminates the path as the “torch-shiner” Vicky watches the screen of the theatre from the shadows. Divya longs for him, but he withdraws, and when she finally reaches out, Vignesh warns that he cannot always tell if the moment he’s living is real or a dream, even as he claims to be happy.

Back in the hospital, the investigation takes a sharp turn as Divya is drawn into a tense moment where she is considered a suspect in the attempt to remove Vignesh from life support. During a suspenseful interrogation, Divya and the investigators watch a rerun of an interview with the film star Vignesh. In that interview, Vignesh explains his complicated relationship with stardom and reveals a childhood accident left him color-blind, a fact that feeds his longing to be an ordinary person who could disappear into the background. He even describes a dream version of himself as a “torch-shiner” who longs for love without the glare of fame.

The detective comes to a sobering conclusion: Vignesh has been living inside his own reality, choosing the dream over the real world, and the attempt on his life marks a decisive bid to stay within that dream. As the emotional tension peaks, Divya watches over the comatose Vignesh, while the dream-world Vicky—still seemingly alive in his own perverse escape—begins to fade as reality encroaches. Then, in a final twist, Vignesh wakes in the hospital to a chorus of relieved doctors and Divya, and the memory of Durai’s presence lingers as he processes the revelation: the film’s real core is the man behind the dream, the actor Vignesh who was living in a version of reality where love triumphed over fear, and Vicky remained a haunting illusion.

In the end, the line between dream and reality remains razor-thin, but the film leaves us with a clear conclusion: the true life is the one Vignesh inhabited, and the dream life—though powerful and seductive—was the illusion. The audience is left with the sense that identity, fate, and love can blur when the mind chooses a more comforting story, and the final image suggests that sometimes waking up is the hardest life to accept—yet it is the only truth that endures.
