Drowning Ghost

The movie opens at a boarding school with a big party before summer break. Most students are outside listening to the headmaster, while Rebecka showers and writes a letter before she jumps from the tower to her death. The incident sets a dark tone for the school year to come.

One year has passed since Rebecka's death, and Sara is back at the boarding school for her final year. The school welcomes two new students, Felix and Leo, who begin to study alongside Sara. Sara and her friend Therese start telling them about local legends tied to the campus.

Sara and Therese explain the legend of Strandvaskaren—the Drowning Ghost—to Felix and Leo. They recount that a farmer murdered three male students and drowned himself in the nearby lake long ago. On the death day each year, the haunting is said to return, with a party held in the old barn.

There is a tradition among the students to hold a party in the barn on the farmer's death day. The event blends superstition with youthful revelry as they honor the legend. The setting remains a focal point for the night's tension.

During the party, Måns and Ynge pull a prank on Sara, and Ynge's harassment escalates toward an attempted rape. Sara fights him off, and later she discovers Måns' girlfriend dead in the hallway. The night's danger becomes suddenly personal for Sara.

Ynge leaves to get milk and is killed by a fork driven through his head. The shocking murder punctuates the chaos of the party and deepens the sense of a malevolent presence at the school.

A masked man suddenly appears and rams an axe into Måns' head, silencing him. Sara's escape becomes more urgent as the killer's identity and motive remain unclear. The party ends in panic and fear as the true danger emerges.

Sara locks Leo in a storeroom and seeks help, only to find an 8mm film in a box that once belonged to Rebecka. The film hints at a brother who looks like Felix and foreshadows a family motive behind the killings. The discovery deepens the mystery surrounding Rebecka's death.

Felix arrives and reveals that he and Rebecka were siblings, separated by their troubled father. He confesses to dressing as the Drowning Ghost to avenge Rebecka and then tries to kill Sara, though she manages to knock him out and escape with Therese.

Sara and Therese flee through the campus and end up near the well. Therese slips and falls, breaking her leg, which traps them and forces Sara to confront the escalating danger head-on. The trio's precarious situation tightens the suspense.

Felix wakes and tracks Sara and Therese to the well, climbing after them as they crawl through a pipe toward the lake. He reaches Therese and kills her off screen, heightening the peril for Sara. The morning light brings little relief from the threat.

Sara reaches the lake and escapes by boat. Felix attempts to ambush her underwater, but she slices his hand with the boat engine and finally kills him by driving the anchor into his back, sending him to the lake's bottom. The immediate threat finally appears to be over.

Police arrive and rescue Sara, reuniting her with Leo on the beach. The authorities attempt to retrieve Felix, but instead discover the farmer's body in the lake, shifting the focus from the human killer to the haunting's legend in a new light.

Sara and Leo graduate from a school in Stockholm, moving on from the haunted campus. Eight months later, during another graduation day, a sign reading 'My beloved sister Rebecka' appears in red, leading Sara to realize that Felix may still be alive among the crowd.
