Dragon Around

Dale is poring over a discarded fairy tale book in his home and becomes hooked by the knightly action. He begins to imitate the adventure, imagining himself on a valorous quest.

A loud rumble erupts and a shadowy figure appears in the distance, which Dale immediately interprets as a real dragon. He rushes back to the yard to tell Chip about the encounter and to see the dragon again.

The duo go to find the monster but discover that it has vanished; the dragon's presence seems to vanish when they arrive. They hide and prepare to confront it, hoping to protect their home.

The 'dragon' reappears as a steam shovel operated by Donald Duck, whose machine's size and noise frighten the chipmunks. They quickly realize the threat comes from the human machinery, not a mythical beast.

Donald surveys the area and decides the chipmunks' tree must be removed to clear space for a freeway. He begins operating the steam shovel to start the demolition, threatening the chipmunks' home.

Chip and Dale retaliate by pelting the steam shovel with objects, trying to deter the machine. Donald uses the tractor's bucket to fling them away, escalating the clash.

Inspired by the fairy-tale book, the chipmunks fashion costumes—Chip as a knight and Dale as his horse—to stage a defense of their home. They prepare for a skirmish on the ‘battlefield’ around the tree.

The chipmunks rush to confront Donald, but he has hidden a welding torch in the shovel's bucket. The torch is used to burn Chip's sword, forcing a retreat.

Donald pretends to fall asleep to lure the chipmunks out, then feigns death throes and slams the bucket to squash them. They manage to escape by slipping out and continuing their plan.

The chipmunks finally find themselves inside the bucket but use a steel pipe to ram their way out, breaking a bucket tooth. Donald replaces the broken tooth with a golden one and continues digging.

Chip and Dale disorient Donald with a large boulder and then destroy the bucket's remaining teeth with a barrel of tar. Donald captures them and locks them in his toolbox, a grim step in the battle.

Chip and Dale free themselves and dismantle the steam shovel with a saw and wrenches. The machine collapses, leaving only the driver's seat with Donald, who crashes head-on into the tree in a daze.

Donald retaliates with dynamite around the tree, and the chipmunks extinguish and repurpose the sticks as ladder rungs. They place the dynamite-laden ladder against the trunk to trap him.

Dale uses a paper bag to stage a fake explosion and lures Donald up a booby-trapped ladder while Chip re-lights the dynamite. Dale tells Donald to stop, look and listen, buying time to turn the prank on him.

Donald flees with the live dynamite as the rungs explode sequentially, sending him higher into the air. From afar, Chip pretends to be the dragon by pulling its picture from the fairy tale and hiding behind it, providing a humorous finale to the tale.
