Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies

King Gurumes was once a greedy ruler whose endless appetite for power and wealth transformed him into a monstrous purple giant. His curse stems from his own greed, which grew so great that it physically warped him into a hulking beast with an insatiable hunger. He believes gathering all seven Dragon Balls will lift this curse and restore his human form.

Early scenes show his soldiers ruthlessly hunting for Blood Rubies, hinting at the king's corrupting obsession with wealth and power.

King Gurumes had already collected five Dragon Balls and sent his enforcers Pasta and Bongo to steal the remaining two. Rather than using them himself, he apparently swallowed them, either intentionally to keep them safe or as part of his monstrous transformation. Bulma discovers all six of the missing Dragon Balls are lodged inside Gurumes's stomach when their attacks have no effect.

Master Roshi tests honesty by summoning the Flying Nimbus Cloud, which only those with pure hearts can ride. When Yamcha attempts to ride it, he falls off immediately, exposing his dishonest nature. Goku, with his genuinely pure heart, successfully summons and rides the Nimbus, proving he is worthy of Roshi's training.

Roshi initially questions the newcomers' sincerity and frames his test as a way to filter out dishonest people.

Pansy witnesses her father being brutally beaten by Bongo and decides to take action against King Gurumes's tyranny. After seeing her village suffer under the king's cruelty, she travels to seek the legendary Master Roshi, known as the Turtle Hermit, hoping his legendary martial arts skills can help defeat Gurumes and restore peace to her land.

Pansy's determination to stand up for her village is established early when she witnesses her father's beating.

Goku lives alone on Mount Paozu in a simple, wild existence when Bulma arrives searching for Dragon Balls with her Dragon Radar. Goku initially believes Bulma is a monster due to her strange appearance, but his curiosity leads him to learn she is human. They discover they share a common goal, Goku's grandfather gave him a Dragon Ball, and team up to collect them before Gurumes's forces do.

The story opens with Goku living in solitude, establishing his isolated life before any visitors arrive.

When Shenron appears after Bulma throws her Dragon Ball into Gurumes's mouth, Pansy wishes for her land to become peaceful and beautiful once more. This single wish restores the Blood Rubies to their proper state, makes the soil fertile again, and reverses Gurumes's curse by transforming him into a small, bald man, stripping away his power and tyranny.

Goku's Kamehameha, which he recently learned from Master Roshi, fails to stop Gurumes because Gurumes has become too powerful. The Kamehameha damages the throne room but doesn't seriously harm the gigantic tyrant. The real solution comes from Bulma's quick thinking, she realizes the Dragon Balls are inside Gurumes and uses her own Dragon Ball to summon Shenron from within his body.

This is Goku's first major use of the Kamehameha, and the film establishes early that Gurumes already holds five Dragon Balls, making him extremely powerful.

Pasta and Bongo are King Gurumes's two primary enforcers tasked with hunting down the Dragon Balls. They are ruthless soldiers who raid villages and terrify civilians to accomplish their mission. Pasta is female while Bongo is male, and they pilot vehicles like jets and submarines to pursue the heroes throughout the film.

The film opens with their village raids, establishing them as the primary antagonists before Gurumes himself appears.

Master Roshi declines Pansy's request to join the fight, believing that Goku and Bulma, along with their new friends, are strong enough to handle Gurumes themselves.
